So I took a bit of a road trip in my vibe over the holidays. Of course, the first thing I did when I got back was to give her a bath. Found some really nasty road grime on some of the cladding (kicked up from the tires...no mudflaps yet). I couldn't get it washed off even with a tire brush, so I'm just wondering if anybody's got any ideas. I think it may be some kind of grease. On a somewhat related subject....has anyone else notice that the standard continental tires seem to kick up a lot of grime??Base shadow 5 speed, moon and tunes, power package, ABS.
I would highly recommend the mud guards offered through the Pontiac dealers. About $42, but it was money well spent. If you think road grime and grease are bad, wait until rocks spin up off the tires and ding up the paint. For your grease on the plastic panels, go to your favorite local auto parts supply store and pick up some bug and tar remover, or, if the grease-like marks are ONLY on the plastic trim, you could use a heavy duty degreaser to get them off. Heavy duty degreaser may harm the finish of the paint, so if the marks are also on the paint, stay with the bug and tar remover because it is generally safe to use on painted surfaces of the car, but double check with the labels on the products first. That's the best advice I can offer. Good Luck!
