We just got upped from 4"-6" to 10"-15"!Quote »THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR 10 TO 15 INCHES OF SNOW UNTIL 10:00PM ESTUrgent - Winter Weather Message National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ 326 PM EST Fri Jan 21 2005 ...The National Weather Service In Mount Holly Has Issued A Winter Storm Warning For 10 To 15 Inches Of Snow... A Dangerous And Significant Winter Storm Will Affect The Entire Area Saturday Into Sunday. A Winter Storm Warning Is In Effect For All Of Eastern Pennsylvania, All Of New Jersey With The Exception Of Coastal Atlantic County And Cape May County, New Castle And Kent Counties In Delaware And Cecil, Kent And Queen Anne's Counties In Maryland. The Upcoming Winter Storm Will Have Two Phases. The First Phase Will Feature Very Heavy Snow Saturday Afternoon Into Saturday Evening Where The Majority Of The Accumulating Snow Is Expected To Occur. The Snow Is Expected To Fall So Heavily That Near White-Out Conditions Are Likely With Rates Reaching One To Two Inches Per Hour. The Second Phase Occurring Overnight Saturday Into Sunday Will Feature Lighter Snow, But Considerably Stronger Winds. This Will Cause Blowing And Drifting Of What Is Expected To Be A Very Powdery Snow. This May Cause Blizzard Conditions At Times. Snow Is Expected To Arrive Into Eastern Pennsylvania, Eastern Maryland, Delaware And Southwest New Jersey Late Saturday Morning And The Rest Of New Jersey By Saturday Afternoon. Total Accumulations After All Is Said And Done Will Average 10 To 15 Inches Across The Entire Warning Area. Travel Conditions Will Become Downright Hazardous And All Unnecessary Travel Is Not Recommended Once The Heavy Snow Begins. Follow The Direction Of Emergency Management And Police In Your Area. Driving Conditions Should Start Improving Later Sunday Afternoon As Winds Diminish. Another Factor Will Be The Very Low Wind Chills. As Winds Increase Saturday Night Into Sunday, Wind Chill Factors Will Drop Below Zero Across Northeast Pennsylvania And Northwest New Jersey And The Single Numbers Elsewhere From Saturday Night And Last Through The Day On Sunday. An Area Of Low Pressure Was Over The High Plains. It Is Forecast To Move Into The Ohio Valley Saturday Morning And Cross The Central Appalachians Saturday Afternoon. A Secondary Low Pressure System Is Then Forecast To Develop Over The Delmarva Coastal Waters Saturday Evening And Intensify Rapidly. The Low Should Be Well East Of Our Region By Sunday Morning.WOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm watching this closely as well. I'm one of those sickos that goes out and drives around in this type of stuff for fun. At the last report this afternoon, downtown Pittsburgh and suburbs were expected to get 4-8 inches of snowfall. Snow was supposed to begin late tonight, but the storm is currently too far away and is forecast to arrive here around 4am Saturday morning. I have to be at work at 7am and so does my g/f. I'll probably be dropping her off early as her RSX doesn't have snow tires on it and it really sucks in the snow. I have the Blizzaks on my car and it has been handling the snowfall quite well so far.I've been watching this storm track for a while and the way that it is shaping up, we could actually get much more snow than they are predicting if moist Gulf air comes up from the south and gets tossed into the Ohio Valley as the storm passes through. That is when we get our heaviest snowfall. In 1993 we had official blizzard conditions for almost an entire day from a storm just like that. We ended up with over 2 1/2 feet of snow in just over a day. I remember that one very well, shoveling that stuff was a major bi*ch!If it's looking really bad out, I just won't go in to work. I can make up the time later, it's really not a big deal for me where I work. My g/f works at a hospital, though, so she kinda HAS to be there. So I might have to concentrate mostly on just getting her to and from work. The problem with this storm is that it is hitting us on the weekend and the city has been bankrupt for years. Snow removal efforts have been getting worse every year and it seems like on weekend, particularly in the evenings, they just kind of say "screw it" and give up on the plowing and salting. I live in the suburbs and most of the suburbs around here have their own snow equipment and crews and how well they clear the roads often varies greatly in each different municipality. In the city you might as well forget it unless you're going to be on the main roads and highways. It will take them DAYS to clear the side streets.I saw all the old folks around here were creating a run on bread, T.P., and milk at the grocery stores this afternoon. That's the norm around here any time accumulating snow is forecast. You'd think they're preparing for doomsday. All you folks to the west of me (like in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio) will have to keep us easterners posted on what's going on your way so we can know what to expect from this. The Pittsburgh area of the Ohio Valley is traditionally very difficult to predict snowfall amounts for, and they are usually changing the amounts right up to the time of the storm and sometimes even after it begins. I will say that they've been getting better at it the past few years, but still are way off sometimes.God help us all.

Well, now local reports are varying in snowfall totals for Pittsburgh. One station says 4-6 inches, a second says 5-7, and a third says 7-8. The third station (KDKA) also reports that the City of Pittsburgh's Public Works Department received an extra shipment of 4,000 tons of salt today. I have no doubt this is because they want to be ready for the Steelers game on Sunday. Heinz Field officials are vowing that the stadium will be perfectly ready before gametime.

2:00am update:If things continue to go as they say they will, I expect the wheels to be gone in the next hour or two...I've probably freaked the neighbours out too...Only way I can get decent pictures is using a 1 million (yes, one MILLION) candlepower twin-bulb spotlight...combine that with a recurrent flash...they've probably got some choice words for me...

Well, it's 2:18...took us about 4 hours, but we finally dug out.I will say this.GREEN DIAMOND TIRES ARE PHENOMENAL!That's right. I did VERY little digging and was able to drive right out. I know damn well if I still had the Goodyears or god forbid Kumhos on, I would've been stuck there. BUt these babies bit right in and took me right out. Also went for a quick drive to get the newspapers (since they didn't deliver them). I was the ONLY non-suv/truck on the road, and I got some surprised looks when I drove up to the Wawa and all these "trucker" types were inside...they kinda looked at me like (removed), how did a lowly CAR make it here!Anyway, pics, as always:Pre dig:The back end...or is it? The wheels:22" at the wheels, with drifts:A frontal view:There was 16 (yes 16!) inches of snow ON the car!Comin back from gettin the papers...

Hola sheet batman! Now that's what I call some snow! Those Green Diamonds gotta rock! I think those were a damn good investment....I know for sure my car with the all-seasons would have been hung up somewhere 30 minutes into that snowfall. Nothing major here yet to give me a test of the Blizzaks. Dang it!
