Just ordered snow tires...finally!Bought me a set of Green Diamond Icelanders. $458 shipped. Not TOO bad.40,000 mile tread life. Since I'm only using them in Winter, that should be good for a few years. They're supposed to be some of the best you can get for the money! Will let you all know how they fare!Quote, originally posted by Green Diamond Tire »What is aGreen Diamond Tire?Green Diamond Tires are tires in which hard granules are distributed evenly on all the wear-surfaces of the tire. These granules provide better traction in slippery conditions. Hard granules (silicium carbide and aluminum oxide) are used as a substitute for industrial diamonds, fixed to grinding wheels and sprockets, e.g. in the metals industry. In the manufacture of Green Diamond Tires, the granules are spread evenly throughout the rubber. This even distribution of the granules throughout the tire’s wear surface ensures that as the tire wears down and granules are worn away, new ones are uncovered. Green Diamond Tires are particularly suitable for use with ABS braking systems, and perform best against other tires in the most difficult of slippery conditions, around 0°C. Green Diamond Tires are an Icelandic invention. The patent for the production method is held by New Industries Ltd, ReykjavÃÂk, Iceland. Green Diamond Tires are environmentally friendly.

I just picked mine up from my friend's place where she was storing them in her garage for me (hard to store tires in an apartment). Plan on getting them put on, on Saturday... along with everyone else in Ottawa (since its currently snowing).

These are the best snow tires you can get in the region...next to the ones made for Alaska, they could very well be the best on the market...Quote, originally posted by trdvibe »what size did you get?205/55/16. I was going to get a narrower tire, but without changing the wheels, MadBIll said it wouldn't be safe for load handling...

They have arrived! And DAMN do they look sweet! And they've already been rated a good buy by 2 out of 5 cats: For up close and detailed pics, head to: http://photos.ragingfish.com/greendiamond

Rated for "cat-like" grip and agility, Mike? Guess you'll be looking forward to the first ice storm now! I would have gone for them if I could have located some, but I didn't have enough time, as I pre-sold the stock wheels and tires even before I took delivery of my Vibe.
Yes, very much looking forward to testing them out...Hoping I can nab a set of steelies CHEAP before too late...so I can avoid the constant unmounting and remounting of tires...

Minor point, Mike: The sidewall reads "Made in Sweden", one of the pics reads "From Iceland" and the symbol at the bottom right of the last pic above says "Made in the USA". Have you guys expropriated a 51st. and 52nd. state?

I noticed that too...I think how it works is this...The tires are manufactured in Sweden but developed and sold in Iceland...However, the dealer I bought it from said to me they will be opening a US plant or something in the next few months...so maybe that's all interconnected or something?

Picked up 4 wheels for a junkyard (hardly a bargain though...) and had the tires mounted on Friday. Installed the new wheels today. Must say, they are soooooo cool. I love that tread design.Haven't driven them yet, but the manufacturer says the actual "green diamonds" will surface after the first 100-200 miles of wear...there's a protective layer on top or something that has to wear off..Oh well...after the first snow or ice I'll be sure to report back!BTW: The guy at STS said to me "Green Diamond? Never heard of them!" While I was there I was looking at a brochure for Nokian Tyres...they look pretty cool too...prolly expensive though...And finally, did anyone realize STS is an acronym? It stands for Somerset Tire Service. Who knew!

I'm STILL waiting for first snow...first frost even...but in the rain yesterday, I have to say I never felt such confidence in traction and handling!Wow, if these are as good in the snow as they are in the rain, I'm convinced!

"green tires are good for the enviroment.through a process called remolding a tire is reused in the production of a Green Diamond Tire" is what the ad says.when i was younger they took old tires and "remolded" a top tread on and it was called a retread, many truckers still use them today.
FINALLY, some feedback! These tires are, well, AMAZING!As we all know, my car was BURIED this morning. Well, I only did minimal digging before I was able to just DRIVE right out! The snow was piled up above the lower bumper. But I wanted to see just how good these were, so I decided to try and drive out...and I was able to do it, FLAWLESSLY!That's right...my dropped car, with NO AWD, was able to just pull itself out. From a rut, mind you, that would've caused all-seasons to just spin.I was able to drive to the quickie mart and back, abotu 5 miles, without so much as a HINT of slippage!I felt like I was driving in an AWD car. Not once did I feel insecure. So, without hesitation, I give Green Diamonds: 5 stars for initial test results.I'll be able to say 100% when I get snowed on at work and have to drive home. That would be a REAL test. So to AWD, I say psssssh! I don't need no steeken AWD!
