MAF Sensor Mods - What damage can be done?

I have looked into many different mods that claim to give extra horsepower. I have read many threads stating that these mods do not work or they can do damage to your engine. One of the popular mods on ebay is the resistor mod. From what I understand, it tricks your MAF sensor into thinking that the temp of the air entering the engine is at a constant 36F and therefore making adjustment to the air/fuel mixture to produce max horsepower. What damage would this cause to an engine? I have always read how bad they are but nothing as to what bad things it may cause. Thanks in advance.

Many have learned the lesson the hard way. DO NOT do ebay performance mods. They're either bogus or dangerous.I can't speak to specifics as to what you might do to the engine, but if you accidentally run far too lean or far too rich, you could kill your motor.Is it worth it?

It may feel better at part throttle or low rpm but our cars usually run a hair rich at high rpm full throttle to keep things cool and prevent knock. You will lose maximum power with the ebay mod. Running rich all the time will wash oil off the cylinder walls and contaminate the oil in the sump. Wear goes up. Get a unichip if you want it done right.

Thanks. I am planning on getting a Unichip. I had never heard of what specific damage it does. I would never get the ebay mod. I just like to be an informed person so that I may help others in the future.
