As you may realize, our US Vibes don't have the convenient 'low washer fluid' indicator. We have the 'low fuel' indicator instead.I've only topped off my washer fluid once, when I first bought the (used) car. I get the oil changed about every 3 months/3000 miles and they top it off for me then.

The Canadian vibes have low washer fluid warning light as well as low fuel. Unfortunately someone in their wisdom decided the best place to put a low fuel light is behind where your hands would naturaly sit on the steering wheel so its not likely to be distracting!

It veries I can fill it as much as twice a week or go several months b4 filling. It would be nice if I had the low washer light.I usually keep at least one full gallon of fluid with me in the car in the winter months.

Another good thing is that when the fluid is empty, you can pour in a full jug and it lasts a long time unless the driving conditions are snowy and terrible.

What kind of fluid do you guys use? Cuz I use that Rain-X De-Jcer (orange bottle) in the winter and the Rain-X Bug Remover (pink bottle) in the summer (warmer months) . I think that it is worth the $2 that I spend. I don't have to use my wipers most of the time on the freeway when it's raining and I use it once in a while as well. So, it lasts me a bit as well. It totally depends on the season. One slushy spring I went through a gallon in one day. Yes, one day. Generally, though, I probably buy maybe 2 or 3 jugs a year, I'd guess. The oil change place sometimes tops me off, but considering the reservoir is so big, that must get expensive for them! ha ha ha - too bad!Unless you like having a partial jug of fluid, make sure your washer light has been on for a while. I find I can't quite squeeze in the full 4L just after the light's come on. I need maybe 5 more windshield cleanings afterwards to use an entire jug.In the winter, I use at least a -30 washer fluid (it's usually blue). I had some really good -45 stuff from Shell (it was green). In the summer, I use whatever bug wash is at the gas station (generally pink).

Speaking of washer fluid, it's a great example of that old axiom: "There is no product that can't be made cheaper and worse"!I've paid anywhere from 99 cents to $5.00 a gallon, and although more isn't always better, cheaper is almost always worse. About the best I've found is the GM Opticlean, but you have to go to the parts counter and ask; the dealers make no effort to merchandise it. (they've likely just given up trying to justify the cost)

GM has been selling Opticlean for a long time now. I've never tried it or even priced it. I was too afraid to ask.

I know the screen is there for a reason, but I can't stand using it - not enough time, and not enough patience! It shouldn't take minutes upon minutes just to dump a full bottle of washer solvent down in there. But sure enough when I'm pouring it through the screen that's pretty much what happens. So, I just pull the thing out and dump the crap in that way. Never had a car with such a screen before. Good idea in theory, but in reality it doesn't work well at all, at least on my clunker of a Vibe that is... As far as the light goes, I don't mind not having one, IMHO they're overrated. My Malibu, every time it was started and the washer fluid was low, I'd hear *ding ding ding* and have a bright orange light staring me in the face for the entire trip... Would have been nicer if the warning would go away after a bit, like it does on some GM stuff, but it stayed on... So I wouldn't have to deal with the light coming on, I would top it off quite frequently. And I still continue that with the Vibe... A gallon stays in the car at all times. And trd4reel, I think the Rain-X stuff rocks! Worth the extra couple of bucks to me...

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by WAL*MART before a big snowstorm hit... As to be expected, they were out of everything. The locals had snagged *every* bottle of the blue stuff, only washer fluid they had was the rain-x. That's fine with me, exactly what I was looking for... lol!

I think I've only filled the washer fluid bottle up twice since I've owned it, but I'm reminded of those same unpleasantries every time I do.

i remember hearing of somebody that got a small piece of that foil stuff that they seal the bottle with into the reservoir. it ended up going into the pump and caused enough damage that he had to replace the pump. nothing much $30 cdn but a pain in the a$$!
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

Would have had to have been a rather small piece of foil. The inlet on the pump is an even smaller diameter than the hoses that lead to the nozzles. Certainly not impossible, but more of a freak thing I would think. I'd be more afraid of small particles making it through the pump and lines and getting stuck at the nozzle.
