It's about time...

Post by ragingfish »

That ragingfish does some REAL audio upgrades! That's right, I always screamed I would not bother changing out the speakers...but I gave in finally.Opened the rear door the other day to let the toons flow out into the open air, and the sound sounded like CRAP!So I gave in, and said well hell, I've put so much money into the car already, might as well go ALL OUT and make this interior stellar. So, I've got coming now:Audiobahn A4004t amp: That amp will power, up front, JL XR650.CSi components, courtesy of NY Pete:And in the rear, Polk momo MM6 components:Of course, as always, I'll take pics during install...But dammit, if it doesn't warm up sometime soon, I'll never get them installed.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

You'll have to let me know how that ends up sounding. I have a similar setup with Polk Momos in the front and JL's in the back. I am still running the stocker M&T amp, but I want to get a good 4 channel to replace it. Just out of curiosity, do the tweeters need a channel as well? What the, do they make 6 channel amps or can I just run the tweets with the fronts or something? Any suggestions for good amps for the door speakers within a reasonable price?

Crossovers take a full level signal in (meaning it has all the highs, mids, lows in the signal, either off the radio, or an amplifier), using certain electrical methods, the crossover takes that single signal and spits out two signals, one for tweeters, one for the 'woofers'.Otherwise known as a hi-pass/lo-pass. Because you're running the M&T amp, it already has these electronics built in, so there's seperate signals going to the tweeters and woofers in the front doors. However, when you change to an aftermarket amplifier, you only need a four channel, depending on your speakers.Mike's speakers come with their own crossovers. If you're using the Momo's, then you have them too. What Mike is going to do is install the JL crossovers under the front seat, using the wiring from an amp bypass kit, he's going to use the existing wiring and go from the amplifier -> crossovers -> woofer and tweeter in front door. The crossovers split up the frequencies so the tweeters only get his, and the woofers get midrange/lows. That way, the speakers aren't recieving more signal than they can reproduce. There are a few different ways to hook systems like these up, so it depends on your situation. Because I didn't have M&T's, my crossovers are mounted inside the door panels themselves.

[QUOTE=Jahntassa]Jahntassa[QUOTE]Mine has the crossovers in the door as well, but I guess they're just being used to control the Polks right now. I didn't get the components since I already had the stock tweeters. Can I use the crossover from the Polks to control the stock tweeters? How would I go about this?

So you have the momo 6.5" speaker, a momo tweeter, a crossover, and the stock tweeters up front?

They are just the door speakers with the built in tweeter. The crossovers ae installed to the Momos inside the door panel, but the stock tweeters are still running off of the samewiring from the M&T amp.

You might be able to simply tie the stock tweeter into the wiring for the tweeter on the MOMOs.

Mike -- I have the A6004T, and had to invest in some high-quality filters to eliminate the engine noise. My audio guy couldn't figure out what the problem was...grounds were fine, wiring was fine, etc. So, you might have to look into some filters.Nice setup though
