can anyone help me out.. got an issue!!!!

Post by drmc1983 »

i took a risk a while back with ebay, bid and won the dvd/navigational system for pontiac vibes. $400 and 6 months later i still have my regular cd player in there.stupid me got excited for having it tried installing it.. it only took a few minutes to take out the old and put that in there. the only thing i don't have is an antenna for it. anyways i put a music cd in it when it turned on to see what happens not realizing that there is a cd that to my after the fact knowledge should go in first to upload everything into it. not to sure. so the cd i put in would not eject. so with some careful playing around i was able to get the music cd out but now the thing still thinks it has a cd and won't take another cd like the one i need to put in there, it just keeps clicking like it wants to read whats in there which is nothing.stupid technology. called delphi the manufacture and they said they would take mine and charge me to buy a new one.. i'm like ok right and blow another $400 or more.. no thanks anyone have any ideas as to how i can fix it or know how to fix my problem.. that's what i get for getting excited for putting cool things in my vibe!!!

What I would recommend is disconnecting and waiting about 15 minutes, the plug the battery back in. Then insert the DVD disk that's needed for the Navi system. Cuz, that's what the system needs right? it needs to upload the roads and stuff?Inder

The NAV disc needs to be in in order for navigation to work, there is no memory built-in. No upload. So if it thinks there's a disc in there, then there's probably something wrong with the loading mechanism... dunno what you can do to get it fixed.

that's what i'm guessing so because i put a regular cd in it, i confused it all up. i have tried disconnecting and putting it back but it still won't work. it thinks it has a cd even though nothing is in there now.pulling the cd out may have done something because it would not come out. none of the buttons on the nav. were even responding.i need to figure out how to make the thing know there is nothing in there to read and to make it eject nothing so i am able to put the right cd in

shot in the dark here.......could it be because the new Vibe's have that anti-theft stuff on it that prevents the cd player..if stolen....from working for the robber because that cd player only works for that car.MY dealer told me the cd player will only work for MY car.It has a code for it that is aligned with the engine chip or something like that that will ONLY work with my car.If someone steals my CD unit and attempts to hook it up in another car and slips in a cd......it will never be able to come out....the unit freezes up....only way to get it to work is to send it back to the factory for repair.Maybe.......thats the reason you are having your problem.....the unit isnt jiving with the code in the engine computer chip and has frozen the cd in your unit. In my 2005...when my car is off...I have a blinking red LED...and this is one of the features I really love about my 2005.

The Vibe doesn't have theftlock. The blinking LED when the car is off is a farce. The NAV system definitely has no form of theftlock. Putting a CD in instead of the NAV disc shouldn't have hurt it in anyway, it would've just started playing the CD. What's it say on the screen when you try to power it up?

Theftlock systems say "LOC" when they're powered on IF they lose power (ie, disconnected). If it's a Class II radio, and not in the car they should be in, they shouldn't work at all, especially the GM LAN radios in the newer Malibu's. None of the theftlocks wait for you to put in a CD, they simply sit there, stupid, until you enter the code. And, theftlock doesn't work unless it's actually turned on initially, which it isn't always. Unless you have an 05 radio, then you'd be hard-pressed to put it in another vehicle without the dealership reprogramming it for you.As for the NAV system, what year did they pull it from, what year is your Vibe? And yes, the 05 does have theftlock. But that's okay, i've never seen someone try to steal a factory radio.

nice job of damage control......your last 2 posts completely contradict themselves..the dealership according to the info they gave me at the time i bought my 05 told me they cant do the reprogramming....it has to go back to the factory.

I can tell you that factory installed radios have to be 'initialized', or they don't work. If it was me, I would take the vehicle to a reputable aftermarket stereo shoppe and ask them if they can help you. They must know how to install new radios in the newer models with theft lock, cuz if they didn't, they'd soon be out of business. They might be able to help you - for a price. They will likely require a proof of purchase.

I don't see how they contract themselves. He's talking about two separate situations -- the act of putting a CD in instead of the NAV disc first in a system *without* Theftlock, and then the way a system *with* Theftlock behaves after it's been removed from its original vehicle.

The NAV system, as far as I know, does not have theftlock on any year. And if YOUR dealership can't do the reprogramming, that just means they don't have the appropriate hardware. I do know that some dealerships do. And once again, not EVERY theftlock radio is tied into the computer system. Only those that're RDS Class II that actually work on the GM Databus. And, by the way, if your dealership does know something about the Vibe, they're one of the first i've heard of to actually say so.

Theftloc is a radio specific thing. The car doesn't reject the radio, it's the radio's issue. The NAV system, as far as I know, doesn't have the theftlock problem, and if it did, it would simply turn on and say "System locked" or "lock" or something similar. It wouldn't wait for you to insert a CD, THEN lock up. That's the jist of what i'm trying to say. It's possible the NAV's DVD drive components were damaged during shipping..

interesting....then that makes me wonder if for some reason.....only certain dealers can do that...sort of like mini-hubs for repair stuff.
