Engine Air Intake Box - HELP VIBE OWNERS!!

Post by Space_Cowboy »

Okay, after I replaced my engine air filter and I noticed that the upper and lower halfs of the intake didn't quite come together. It looks like its clipped in just fine on the outboard side of the box, but on the side toward the engine there seems to be a little gap between the top and bottom halfs (I can feel it with my finger) does anyone else have this problem? I've tried to get it to fit right with no gap, but I've had no luck. Can anyone check their air box too? Thanks for the help!

Is it upside-down or backwards? I had an issue similar because the filter wasn't in quite right. It seems to be a bit of a pain to get the filter in, anyway, just because it has to be in there -just right-.

Also, make sure that the side closest to the engine is seated properly. You may have to push down and towards the engine on that side before bringing the latch side down for it to be properly seated. That is what I have experienced in addition to the filter being able to go in one way only.

That will happen if you get the filter in backwards, i.e., inboard end facing outboard. Also make sure the interlocking 'hinges' at the inboard side are properly engaged.

I have looked at it, I flipped the filter around (outboard in, in board out) and I still can't get the stupid thing to close, this is a concern to me as the gap is on the side that goes to the engine e.g. unfiltered air will be in my engine. is there anyone that can load up a pic of the hinge and latch sides of their air box to make sure mine's seated properly?

I had the EXACT same problem once a while back. The top of my air box was not closed tight on the side facing the engine and there was a small gap. After fussing with it and fussing with it...I discovered that there the 2 "tabs" on the top of the air box (engine side) must slide under the 2 "notches" on the bottom of the air box (engine side). You will have t play and fuss with it to get it just right. Once you do, you will get a feel for how to do it and won't have a problem putting the top of the airbox back on. As I said...I had the exact same problem once and know how frustring it is when it won't go back on right. When you are putting the top back on...think down and in. Taking the side that faces the engine...take the top of the airbox and tilt it down toward the bottom part and slide it in and under the little notch thingys on the engine side of the bottm part. Then..put the side that doesn't face the engine down and clamp it on. You'll get it...Jim

Yeah, you've probably already noticed this, considering the date and all the previous posts, but just in case, here's a quick diagram of something to look for. Also be sure the filter is properly seated in it's little recession. That's a problem I've run into with my K&N... the grippy, floppy rubber will catch on the edges.~ Z600
