Movie reviews

Post by Mr. Poopypants »

Please post any reviews on new movies here. These movies include new theatrical and DVD releases. Please only post reviews, try to keep the other posts down, I think this would be a neat little thread to keep running (and easy to find the actual reviews)

Napoleon Dynamite a dang funny movie. My wife hated it, she said "that was the dumbest movie ever". She said the same thing about "Dumb and Dumber"(great movie). But I loved it.

OK, my 2 most recent DVD movies and one theatrical releaseNapoleon Dynamite 2 thumbs up for sure. A great movie about........nothing really. This will be one for a select group of people, you either love it or hate it.Troy The movie holds true to the original greek tale, with some minor artistic license taken. BTW, is it a rule that Orlando Bloom has to use a bow and arrow in every movie he is in?Team America:World Police The (removed) scene......the most hilarious minute in a movie. I have never lauged that hard at one minute of film in my life. The DVD will most likely have the additional 9 minutes of (removed) scene that they had to cut out. Keep in mind, no genetalia on these puppets, which makes it even more funny. It is crude humor, if you like South Park, or have seen Orgasmo or Cannibal! The Musical and enjoyed them, chances are you will love this movie. (All are written and acted in by Matt Stone and Trey Parker)AMERICA $@#& Yeah!

Meet the Fockers: Great movie. Watched it twice. Loved it both times. Even though I knew what was gonna happen the second time in the movie, still was quite funny. I would definitely recommend this movie.Blade Trinity: Good movie. Not as good as the original Blade, but definitely worth going to the theaters to watch.Inder

Dodge Ball is about 3 out of 5 points for me, had its very funny yet just plaIN weird moments.Resident Evil 2 (movie, not the game) AWSOME IMO Loved itIf you want to see Toronto Canada blow up, watch that movie haha.Blade Trinity, also an awsome movie, not as good as the first cause sequals hardly are but I enjoyed it just as much. Great comic relief.King Authur, I wasn't sure what to expect with that movie, never saw it in theaters, but enjoyed it greatly on DVD. Get the extended unrated version.Van Helsing (sp) For fans of mythical vampires, were creatures, sirens. Awsome movie to.

Clerks X (DVD) ROCKED....making of Documentary (The Snowball Effect) was awesome. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (DVD) WEIRD, but entertaining....odd to see Jim Carrey as kate Winslet's straight man, but somehow it worked.3 (DVD) Not really what I expected, but still a very compelling movie, tearjerker.

1. The Incredibles- 2004 Theatrical - (yeah, I'm in to G and PG-13 family movies) not out on DVD yet - they're still raking in the bux at the box office.I'm constantly amazed at the absolute creativity of all the Pixar releases (Toy Story, portions of Toy Story II, Monsters, Inc.) They take a totally off-the-wall concept and produce some of the funniest stuff ever to wear the title 'animation' Pays homage to many live-action and animated superhero movies.2. Laws of Attraction 2004 DVD (enjoyable chick flick warning)I've always liked the TV and movie characters portrayed by Pierce Brosnan (Remington Steele and the various James Bond flicks). Brosnan plays a high-powered unconventional divorce lawyer who gets into the head of his court opponent and eventual love interest, Julianne Moore. Beautiful Irish scenery later in the movie too. DVD has special features including deletes scenes and an alternate ending. You're able to view the screenplay as the movie runs, and there are some DVD-ROM internet links if you play in on your computer (I didn't explore them - the movie was due back at midnight). The Italian Job - 2003 DVD - (Yup, I'm a sucker for a good car chase movie too. Bullitt and North By Northwest are some of my all-time favorites) Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlburg, Donald Sutherland, et al. I never saw the original (1969) theatrical release, but the premise included the use of Mini-Coopers in a heist. The 2003 re-make makes the the new (2003) Mini-Coopers the stars. Lots of action and suspense, involving the heist of gold from (where else) Venice Italy. The DVD has lots of 'making of' footage, including a racing school the main driving characters attended to prepare for the filming. Don't forget to check out http://www.IMDB.com for additional critical and first-person reviews and opinions on virtually ANY movie!

Cold Mountain - sucked. Too slow, Nicole Kidman is all wrong for that role. Maybe the book is better.

Watched Paycheck on the weekend. I gave it a 7 out of 10. Interesting premise; could tell it was done by John Woo though. So very "woo-ish" like Face/Off.

I've owned Hero since May of 2003, but I sure wouldn't say it is better than Musa. I don't think there is a better martial arts movie than that other than maybe Twin Warriors. More favorites are Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Iron Monkey, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Last Samurai, The Returner, and Bichunmoo.

Finally got around to seeing "Super-size Me." Fantastic Documentary, I recommend everybody go a rent it. Just a quick synopsis for those of you who haven't heard of it, a guy eats nothing but McDonald's breakfast, lunch, and dinner for one month to see what the effects of eating too much fastfood has on the body. If you were ever having trouble starting a diet...watch this documentary and you will walk to the nearest grocery store and buy a bag of carrots.

I was humming 'i'm so ronery' to a friend while watching the aviator... we almost fell off our seatsPolar Express (on IMAX 3D) If you ever read the book to your child, this was a heck of a ride Italian Job Action with an eye for the characters. you could feel the chemistry between the actors

Yet another bump.Just watched Sin City last night. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It is not a movie for the kids, lots of killing. The way the movie was filmed and edited is amazing, it is so nice to see a creative movie stick out from all the cookie cutter crap that has been released recently. Not to mention the fact that Jessica Alba is SMOKIN' HOT.

I heard that Jessica Alba's scene in the strip club was supposed to be topless, but she backed out of it at the last minute and had it changed. And I just watched House of Flying Daggers. It was a great martial arts movie almost as good as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The fight scenes were very good, but the cinematography was absolutely breathtaking. The colors and the angles the director used made it very enjoyable to watch.

Just came back from watching Clerks II. It was absolutely hilarious, . I don't think I have laughed that much at a movie for a very long time. The last one was probably Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. If you haven't seen the first one, don't worry you won't need to. It might help, because there are some references to it. But all in all it is a brand new movie. I strongly recommend that you have a very open mind. The movies humor is a little crude.

For example... the air plane over the waterfall... then cut to the shot partially blocked of the bottom of the waterfall... I literally counted out loud in the theater "3... 2... 1...." and the airplane amazingly appeared - hurrah. Com'on - this is Superman, direct better!Sure there's some cool surprises at the end and I think Spacey did a great Lex (many didn't)... but the overall movie was snoring.Sorry, i can't give it more than Cars was funny, same old family friendly Pixar plot - but I didn't care. It was a great movie with good directing, effects, and characters. If I could change one thing? The voice actor of Speed McQueen... Over the Hedge - finally a kids movie with a new story line. Or at least different enough not to be classified like anything else. Humor in this movie was one notch above Cars - I had tears in my eyes a couple of times from laughing so hard. 1/2

Clerks 2 was not what I expected.....I expected a lot of gross humor....well, it delivered! But the back-story was what really got me....sorry, no spoilers from me, but it really was worth all the waiting and hype that Kevin Smith put us (his fan-base) through.Cars is one of those movies that deserves to be seen on the big screen, at least once..... and then own on DVD within 72 hours of it's release!!

Saw Monster House a couple of nights ago. I was bored to tears (and I really enjoy animated films). But my 7-year-old daughter seemed to like it. The animation was so-so, and very little humor at all. Was only 1.5 hours but seemed quite a bit longer.
