Airbags have been known to cause more injuries in low speed accidents than would have been sustained otherwise in a vehicle without airbags. Maybe thats what they were thinking...or that is the new "Fred Flintstone" method of stopping your car.

Are SIR sensors tied into the speedo? I ask because, if the car isn't moving, but you get hit by another car going fast enough, would the bags deploy?
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Holy crap I saw that on the news the other night and could not believe that! Two idiots jump out and the bags did not even deploy, so fear that! The one idiot almost got run over too as we all saw. Here is what she was thinking:A) Saw too many episodes of COPS and when thugs steal cars, they sometimes bail to throw the cops off!B) Saw too many movies from the 1950's where people jump out before the vehicle fall off a cliff!

Yes they would deploy.
(removed)??? Why would people bail out of the car in a situation like that??? They're only sliding at about 10MPH so why would you risk getting run over or crushed by bailing out???
