Some '05's Have A Cable Throttle Other '05's Don't

Post by BlueCrush »

I just got back from an oil change from the dealer and was looking at the engine of the '05 Vibe on their show floor. I noticed it has the new electronic throttle. I have a Cable throttle on mine. I asked a salesperson and he said that Pontiac changed their throttle system about 4 months ago. I am actually pretty happy that mine is a cable system due to the fact that I am wanting a Unichip and they do not have a set-up for a Vibe with the electronic throttle system. So, some people with '05 Vibes will have a cable throttle system and some will have an electronic throttle system. The way to tell is if there is a cable running to the throttle body then it is a cable throttle system, if not then it is a electronic throttle system.

the 1zz never got the DBW setup so it's possible you were looking at a GT model with the 2zz? cuase on the celicas at least anything from 2003 -2005 have the DBW setup for the 2zz.

Nope it was a 2005 5-speed base 1zz on the dealer's showroom floor.I am having a couple of guys there look into it further, again as to when it was changed and what models of the Vibe are now DBW.

You should still be able to get a CAI.

No unichip, and probably no NOS though.

This is an interesting development. If true that some 05s have drive by cable then perhaps the CAI and SC will work on those cars.

the intakes should fit on the DBW versions. I dont see why they wouldnt be able to. Nitrous shouldnt be an issue either. we ran a 75 shot on a DBW 2zz celica with no problems.

the smog line goes into the intake tube rather than the throttle bodie on the dbw. I tried to fit the aem sr but it would not work. there are other threads on this from when I tried
