Engine Whistle at High RPM's

Post by BlueCrush »

Since I bought my Vibe I have been getting a whistling sound from the engine starting at 5500 RPM's all the way up the the limit of 6200 RPM's. I was thinking it was just a warning signal to let you know you are getting close to the Rev Limit. Has anyone else experienced a whistling sound?

wheres the whistle coming from and how loud s it?? could be a belt issue. It's definitely NOT a rev limit warning.

It's coming from the engine compartment and I can hear it pretty good over my Cosmo short ram intake and Dynomax Muffler. I am also finding it doesn't happen everytime. I will have the dealer look into it at my next oil change.

Yes, you may want to have your belts checked. That may be your problem.Inder

Could also be a vacuum leak (e.g. the intake manifold gasket), but if that's what it is, I don't know why it would not be present all the time.

I will have the dealer check the belt and manifold gasket. Any other suggestions?

if it was that bad of a vacuum leak you'd have other problems like the car not wanting to run lol to check yourself spray a lil brake kleen around the TB and manifold. if the idle jumps at any point then you have a leak
