Save money and mod a Matrix cabin filter

Post by nonstop »

My cabin air filter needs changing at 53000 km. My Vibe dealer in Canada quoted $ 61.66, Canadian Tire $ 38.99 and the Toyota dealer quoted $ 32.95 for a Matrix cabin filter. So I bought the Matrix filter. Funny thing, the Matrix filter is half an inch longer! I can't close the filter door with the Matrix filter. The Toyota filter has a different Toy part number. I modded the filter by cutting about a half inch off the end. I inserted it with the cut end towards me so I can compress the width and remove it in the future. Anyone else experienced this?original Vibe Toy # on filter TY02116P and the Matrix is # TY02117P.

Question, if you're in MI, why are you getting priced a Canadian price? Just curious. Did you move over to the States recently?Inder

yes I experienced the same thing. I bought a Matrix filter because they are cheaper and found it didn't fit too.
