Discovered that GenVibe has RSS today! If you take a look allllllllll the way at the bottom of every screen is a tiny XML button...Using that RSS link, I plugged it into Trillian...and now I always get my GenVibe updates, even when I'm not online!Go ZF!Click for full-size view:
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
LOL!Trillian is a program that lets you interface with AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Jabber, etc. all from the same program....it also has tons of plugins...and lets you "rename" contacts so instead of saying "Ragingfish" you can change it to say "Mike"

I never thought of it before, but I might be scared of a raging fish if one came flopping my way. Yeah, it's about that time to go home and shut down my brain

I've read through this twice and I still don't get it. Is there an explanation of what this is for the technologically retarded?

Hmmmm....how to simply.Basically, RSS, aka Really Simple Syndication, is a special kind of web code, derived from XML. It's basically a form of content delivery. It's designed to allow programs besides web browsers to receive data from web sites and display it in a customized format set by you.Your XML reader (in my case, Trillian) can periodically check back to the XML server to look for updates...Other sites that do XML feeds, for example, are Yahoo and slashdot.

Here's an example of what I can do with RSS in Linux... I have a news ticker applet that you can add to any panel, and I set up a few GenVibe forums for it to retrieve from... It updates every so often, and scrolls the thread titles. You can check to see what's new, and if it intrests you, click and it spawns a browser taking you directly to that thread. Pretty neat, you can find out what's going on here without ever visiting, or even having a browser open for that matter.
