hooking up an extra amp...

Post by BigWill »

I have an amp hooked up to one 10 inch woofer. Now I want to know if I can just link another amp to that one, and run another 10 from that one without running the wires all over again? Just have one on one....someone hit me back.

Do you mean you want to piggyback the wires from the first amp to the second? Power, Ground, and remote... from first to second? If this is what you mean then the answer is no. The other amp must have its own power supply (with proper fuse) run straight from the battery, or you can take the existing power wire and hook a distribution block up to it and therefore split it to both amps. Just make sure you have the right gauge wire and fuses! The Ground needs its own grounding point also, with wire less than 18" long and grounded directly to the metal chassis on an unpainted surface. You should be able to splice into the remote wire to turn on the second amp without any probs, but put a half amp fuse on it near the headunit to keep you headunit from blowing up. Hope this helps.

Thanks man...I think I will just pay someone $20 to do it for me, I can't afford to mess THIS car up. LOL Thanks though...oh yeah, when I went back to the guy who did my first amp, he said I couldn't do that. (Piggy back) It would blow the amp...why is that?
