That was when i first found aikido. I did some research and found it very interesting. Just for fun i typed in 'aikido owensboro, ky' and i was pretty surprised to see that there was a dojo in town. I contacted them and watched a class. Then i sort of forgot about it until my wife brought it back up. We went and watched a class again and two days later i started going. As for the reason i chose aikido, i really like the idea that you are not kicking and punching but using the other person's momentum against them. It has been called 'the thinking mans martial art'.. It is not something that will be a good self defence in a couple of weeks, it takes a couple of years to *really* be able to use it On The Street.

I have studied many different styles off and on for the last 20 years. I really liked Aikido, Hapkido, Kung Fu - Wing Chun, and Sakim Salat. I have studied Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, Sanchin Ryu, Judo, Shotokan Karate, Kendo, Jute, Mui Tai, Tai Chi, and some others. I greatly preferred the Chinese styles over the Japanese or Okinawan styles. I think my favorites would be Aikido, Hapkido, and Wing Chun.

Tang Soo Do is a korean martial art. Was orginated November 3rd, 1945 by Grand Master Wang Ki. It was used mainly for the koreans to defend themselves in the Korean War. I thiink that sounds about right. Someone correct of this if I am wrong. I practice under Grand Master Armanian and Master Schollenberger. Inder

Besides vibemoon, has anyone else studied Shokotan Karate? I'm interested because 1) I'm working on a graphic novel whose protagonist is a student of Shokotan Karate and 2) am interested in learning it firsthand and would like to hear personal experiences. There are at least four dojos in the Houston area and I'll be visiting one or more soon, just would like some feedback.
