Post by BlueCrush »

I tried to test the upgraded security system that came with my vibe and am unable to set off the alarm. Anyone else tried this? Thanks,Brian

You've got the little "Security" panel to the left of the steering wheel, right?Arm the system by locking with the keyfob. After the security light starts flashing, use the key to open the rear liftgate. Or, have the windows rolled down, and open the door from the inside.I think it's also got a glass-breakage sensor. The upgraded security is mostly useless..

So buying it and having it installed by the dealer would be a waste? Will an aftermarket system work with the existing keyless entry system?

Will an aftermarket system work with the existing keyless entry system?Buying the OEM security system? Absolutely it'd be a waste. It's a $400 option. For $400 you can have a fully programmable remote start / alarm / keyless entry system that'll do anything you want it to do.And no. The idea of the aftermarket system is to completely bypass the existing keyless. You'd get better range, the same (and more) functionality, too. You can still have the hatch-pop, the progressive unlock (driver, then the rest of the doors), and locking.

Thanks for the info, Jahntassa. I've been considering the dealer alarm as a late merry xmas to me, but I guess Circuit City is a better option. Thanks for the heads up...

Well, I found out why it wasn't going off. I didn't wait long enough. After 60 seconds it arms itself after locking. I put the drivers side window down locked it and waited more that 60 seconds (until security light started flashing). It armed, and went off as soon as I manually unlocked the door. So, it works as it should. My brain, on the other hand, sometimes doesn't.Brian

Did you wait for the security light to start flashing? I think I forgot to mention it's on a bit of a delay..
