Disabling the BEEP BEEP BEEP when a GT is put in Reverse. Anyone done it?

Post by vibegt11 »

The FIRST time I heard that STUPID BEEP BEEP BEEP warning sound for reverse darn near made me not buy my Vibe GT. How do I disable it, or make it just beep ONCE, which is what it should do. Once you arein reverse, do you REALLY need the darn BEEPER to remind you that you are going backwards?

It's a safety feature designed to make sure the driver is aware they have the car in reverse and not in 1st. I've read numerous stories where it saved drivers from flooring it in reverse! If you use the provided search feature and search for the query "reverse beep," you will see some members have successfully disabled that feature, or developed alternatives to it. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1045 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2585 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2940 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1267Welcome to genvibe, enjoy your stay! In my opinion---and not directed at you or anyone of our fine members on this forum . If someone is that dense that they don't know what gear their car is in --their drivers license should be pulled. A simple "Reverse" light would be OK on the dashboard but a Beep- Beep would drive me nuts and cause distraction.. James (Vibe)

Most people are not looking at the dash when in reverse...they're looking behind them...or at least that's how I was taught to back up.

i personally hate the beep. it's one of the most annoying things about this car. i love my vibe, but the beep has got to go! whenever anyone gets in and i put the car in reverse, they're looking around saying, "what the hell is that annoying noise?". and they're not talking about my music. it's especially distracting, when i am talking to a client on the phone, have my handsfree set on, and there's this beeping. i'm always asked, what is that?

Eh..i'm torn..I kinda like it...but then it helped out the other day at Pep Boys when someone almost floored it in reverse while trying to bring it in the garage...

That reverse beep just must go. Followed the directions from a referenced previous post. Took about 10 minutes to pull the instrument cluster and find the wire. One snip and it's gone. Thanks for the great info. Brian

Although I get a kick out of the blinking "stewardess light", the beeping is a quirk of the GT I could live without. However, since I am mechanically declined, it has to stay.

yes I have done the disable beep mod on my GT and am a much happier Vibe owner for it its easy if all u want to do is shut it off which is what I did. As for the pep boys comment, dont ake your car to a shack like that your better off changing ur own oil or whatever. Just remember to tell whoever you let drive your car where reverse is and how to recognise the diff between that and first gear.

In these situations there is no way at all to get into reverse without actually pulling up on the safety. The Vibe GT has a lockout feature that you must force the shifter past to even get over to where reverse is. I don't care for cars where reverse is directly below 5th though, I just think that's weird.I say if someone doesn't know what gear the car is in they shouldn't be driving it.
