20 Gal Saltwater that I've had going for about 4 years now... No fish currently - though I'm going to add some come January, and have had them in the past, as well. They went away to good homes when I moved.

I have had many fish tanks over the years although none presently(3 cats and a King Snake). Cichilids are tricky because they need a balanced higher alkaline level in their water. Also they will kill almost any fish other than another cichilid.

I have a degree in marine bio and enviromental science. I also worked at the baltimore aquarium for 6 years so if anyone has any questions about tanks or fish I'd be more then glad to help out. I have breed everything there is from egglayers to mouth brooders. So hammer away with the questions. A African Chiclid tank is rather easy to maintain, onece you have the ph established it holds it's own. Adding things like african iron root wood help to balance, a little salt doesn't hurt either.

try something simple to start with. Peacocks are fun but expensive. Psuedotrophus are fun and easy to breed, plus try and stay with some of the fish that only get in the 4-6 inch range.

depends on the quality of store you deal with. if all they have is a tank labeled "african chiclids" well then yes everyone has them. The store I deal with in Baltimore has over 60 tanks dedicated to them. Quite a difference.

I've got a 5 Gallon tank that housed a Betta for a long while no fish currently. Our betta died at about 2.5 years old.

it sure is, in fact I worked there for three years. Excellent people and good prices. My parents live 6 minutes from there. If you have far to travel they will styropackage your fish.

Russ, Got a ??I plan on getting a 90 gallon tank. I want freshwater but I would like some color. I know saltwater fish are more colorful than freshwater. I also want a nice balance of fish throughout the tank (I don't want a ton of fish that hang out in the middle of the tank with nothing towards the top or bottom) What mix of fish do you suggest???(2000th post by the way)

I am rather new to the game but from the research i did cichlids are nice. go to http://cichlidforums.com and look at the pictures. You can get really nicely colored ones. i will post pics when i get home from work the only thing with cichlids is they can be teritorial so you have to be selective about what you put in the tank. . be warned the hobby isnt cheap
