Under warranty & they can't find a problem

Post by amymnull »

I am assuming someone here has had this experience. You take your car into the dearler because of a problem and they can't find a problem with the car. Do you pay for the rental or does the dealer?

If the repair was covered regardless of if anything was or was not found wrong, and providing a reason of why they needed your car long enough that you required a vehicle, they are obligated to cover the fee for the vehicle you were in.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the problem?

I had a similar scare earlier in the month... The Vibe went in for an engine knock when cold, and this was something that the car needed to be left at the dealer overnight. Not having any other way to get around, I requested a rental. My factory warranty is shot, and I'm now covered under my extended GM warranty.Day 1 at the dealer passed, and they couldn't find anything, they wanted to keep it another night. That turned into 2 days that the Vibe was at the shop and I was still driving their rental. They weren't having much luck with finding the problem, so they wanted to keep it yet another night.I then started to freak out a bit... I brought up my concern to them that if they can't find the problem, would I be stuck paying $30 for every day I had this rental? And would it cost me money to diagnose since they didn't find any problems? I wasn't sure if GM would cover anything. The service manager simply said "don't worry about that, we'll take care of you." *sigh of relief!*The next day, I returned their car and picked mine up - no work had been done on the car, they didn't (and still don't) know what the deal is with the engine... And the only thing it cost me was a few bucks to fill up their rental before bringing it back to them.
