After many choice words, a smashed filter, taking the bumber off, and 3 1/2 hours later, the Injen CAI is installed and works perfect!!! The instructions from Injen are very good and I did not take enough pics to do a step-by-step, but I am going to say this... they never tell you to take the front bumber off, but DO IT!!! it is so much easier with the bumber off and its no hard to do. I will post pictures below .
Nice install Moondogg. I installed a CAI on mine, my brother and I didn't have to take the bumper off at all. Yes, it was a tight squeeze under there, but we got the filter on without bending it. And it seems that on the GT's the filter sits at a slant. In mine, it sits straight, no curve at all. And I don't recall TRDVibe taking the bumper off at the meet to install Mavriks intake on his.Inder

It was a very very very tight fit.

I could not imagine the 04 GT install without taking the bumper off and having to deal the smog pump, I think it would be impossible. My directions from Injen did recommend taking the bumper off, and all the pics were of the bumperless GT. Glad to hear there is another GT owner with an Injen!

What a beautiful garage to work in. You make me very jealous. I installed my CAI on a gravel driveway infested with a million black flies buzzing around my head.
Were you able to get the rubber hose over the port on the air pump or did you just jam it inside like the instructions showed? I couldn't get it to fit over the port so I just jammed it in and sealed it with some black duct tape. You may want to get an extra nut to stack on top of the vibra mount. That'll keep it from backing off under the vibration. Mine backed off and the washer and nut ended up being lost to the road gods. Now go out and scare some people with lift.

And with the vibra mount I have a nut on the bottom and top but I thought about it while posting the pictures I need to tighting them both down better...

While I had the bumper off I shaved a bit of the foam "bumper" away so that it had a few centimeters clearence. Sorry no pics.

So taking the bumper off is the way to go. how hard is it to get off? any alignment problems when putting it back on? Just curious as I will be doing this soon on my GT.

I had to take my bumper off to clean my filter at the beggining of winter. Since it was off and the filter was clean, the Cosmo tube was a little longer than I wanted it to be. It didn't hit the bumper or anything but the filter went way up on the tube so inside the filter the tube was withint like a half inch frmo the bottom of the filter if you hav eany idea what im trying to say lol. It's bugging me so I drew a picture. Anyways, I took a hack saw and trimmed the bottom of the CAI tube so the filter would recieve more air....heres the pic.

I have the 04 base but the design is the same on the base and the GT as far as the front end is concerned. No bumper removal required at all, just two bolts on the bottom of the front bumper were the inner wheel well fastens to the fascia. Pull back the inner wheel well cover and there you have clear access to install the filter. I had mine installed the first time in about 1.5 hours, the second time it took like 30 mins.

I tried extracting mine via wheel well but it didn't work...when I re-oil it again in the spring it will probably come out like that since I trimmed the tube. And thanks for the artwork compliment
I'll likely trim the tube at the 60,000 mile maintenace...Taking off the bumper is easy, but a bit of a chore when i'm pressed for time...Would rather be able to nab it from underneath...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I have the 04 GT so I have the smog pump. On the smog pump were the 17 mm hose goes and then runs up on to the CAI pipe after the filter, on the stock one it was before the filter. Does the smog pump suck air from the CAI pipe? because my smog pump were the 17 mm hose goes had dirt inside it and I don't want the CAI sucking that up into the intake. Also the front side air valve, do you disconnect it electricaly? and then put the cap on at the "T" plastic part? Other than that I think I am good for the rest of it. Can't wait to get it on and then hit some sweet lift!
Did you by chance get a by pas valve? I strongly recomend getting one, the worst thing that could happen is that you get water in there. Just about the most common problem with the cai. Good pics though Too bad they weren't big enough dan
