Wiring harness for aftermarket reciever.

Post by chadhgraves »

General Motors Receiver Wire Harness. For select models, 1999-up, 24-pin Molex plug. Has anyone used this wiring harness themselves to install an aftermarket reciever? I am debating on wether I could install this myself or would I be better off having a pro do it. It's my understanding that all I need is this and a vibe mounting bracket. I have a limited knowledge on intallation of stereos but think that I could save money if I did it myself. I drive a 2003 base vibe without the moon and tunes package and I plan on installing the Aiwa CDC-X504MP reciever in it. I need the front auxillary input for my iPod. Any help would be appreciated.

Most places will charge you about $60 for the wiring + mounting bracket. So if you subtract the cost of the harnesses and mounting bracket the rest is excess cost. As others will tell you it really isn't that difficult to do the wiring yourself, it just a matter of matching the colored wires up.

There's actually another wiring harness that looks just like that, but has a blue/white wire in it as well. You should try to get that one to avoid any unnecessary splicing! Especially if you're doing this for the first time...It's Metra #70-2003.*EDIT* I just saw you don't have M&T, so you don't need this one, stick with the one above.

You need to find the 70-2003 or 80-2003 (Circuit City), you need the blue/white because that powers the amplified antenna, otherwise you'll get no AM/FM reception.

I don't have the blue/white wire, and my radio reception perfect.
