hooked up but not working

Post by Smokin' Rubber »

Hey guys, I'm back... sort of... anyway I finally did the wiring to my amp/sub, but for some reason the amp isn't getting any power. So here is the exact situation* + 12V wire is connected right on the + battery terminal and goes right to the amp* Ground wire is hooked up to the chassis under the molding in the trunk and connected to GRD port on the amp* The remote turn on wire is hooked up to the negative power wiring that goes to the head unit (not sure if its actually touching metal in the socket but I'll check)I would assume that would be all that is needed to get the lights on the amp to turn on and affirm that it is getting power. Oh another question... is the remote wire supposed to be the source of negative electricity for the amp?

Oh another question... is the remote wire supposed to be the source of negative electricity for the amp?Er..no. The remote is a switched 12v power. The thick ground wire is the source of negative. So you need to hook up the remote to a 12v switched wire either behind the radio, or on the 12 outlet in the center dash.

well i think he might be talking about the turn on wire, which should connect in with a wire going into the cd player. its blue with a white stripe in my 04 vibe. the turn on wire makes it so that the amp doesnt turn on until the cd player is turned on.

If you have the stock radio, then you need to connect it to the Gray wire on pin B2 of the radio connector. Or, the 12v wire going to the cigarette lighter.

Rolling starts are fun too. I killed my batt when I was installing my HIDs. It was kinda funny, Mike and I pushing my GT down the courtyard in front of my house and popping the clutch to get it started. Held the charge after that, too!The lawnmower battery was definitely a clever idea, though...

I had never experienced the amusement that is the rolling start...and then when his car took off, it scared the CRAP outta me!

Lol hmmm I totally forgot about pushing it although that would have been more of a challenge without any assistanceKinda funny the first time I test drove a Vibe someone had apparently left the lights on or something so the battery was really weak. It barely started the second time I tried it, and then once I drove it to a gas station (since the salesperson said that we should fill it up) it wouldn't start so we had to push it down a hill to get it started

Hmmm ok new question, where did you run the wire from the battery through the firewall? and did you have to drill? (I haven't hidden all the wires yet since I wanted to test to see if the equipment worked first before I made it hard to take out)

(I haven't hidden all the wires yet since I wanted to test to see if the equipment worked first before I made it hard to take out)There's a big 'ol rubber gromit that the main wiring harness runs through. It's a few inches above the gas pedal, and fairly high up on the firewall just to the left of the strut tower (if looking in from the front of the hood). It's kinda tough, get a sharp knife, and cut through to the side (or top) of the main harness, through the rubber. Get a long screwdriver or something, and push it all the way through. If you are running the power wire from inside to the engine compartment, run the screwdriver in through the engine side, tape the wire to it, and pull.Or just cut the thing, and try shoving it through. That's the way I did it.

I think there's actually two layers you need to go through, so try cutting from the inside, and the same place on the outside.. It's a pain, but once you get it, you're gold.
