Remote Starter

Post by drw2514 »

I want to get a remote starter for my Vibe. My car doesn't have the factory alarm system. I want to get the Viper 791XV, which has an alarm system. My question is, does the stuff that comes with the Viper work without the factory alarm? I mean, will the shock sensor/siren/etc function or not if I don't already have an alarm system with my Vibe. I think I read something somewhere about how aftermarket security systems only work if there is a factory system they can tie in to. Also, any opinions on the system (Viper 791XV) are appreciated. I can get one for ~$300 installed. Thanks for the help!

Aftermarket systems are just that - made for after the purchase of a car.If properly installed, yes, a system will work without a factory system. After all, they're designed for cars that DON'T already have a system.

Thanks for the reassurance. Has anyone here installed one themselves? If so, any tips/instructions on how to do it? I could save ~$130 if i installed it myself.

My understanding is Viper's HAVE to be installed by certified installers or your warranty is void...

Or you could get a rattler (brand I have) and do it yourself.Jahntassa walked me through it...was fun, and very rewarding, to have done it myself...But I don't have security, just RS with KE...

What's the deal with the Vibe's key? Does it have a chip in it or something? I tried to have my remote starter installed last year at Future Shop and the tech said something about having to sacrifice a key and the install would be $200.00. Please shed some light on this for me.

Please shed some light on this for me.NO. They're wrong. Most other GMs need this because of a passlock interface. The 791XV is an awesome unit, it's the upgraded version of the one I have on my Vibe. Very simple, straightforward. Yes, I can give you a step-by-step guide to installing it yourself, but, if you want the warranty kept, you need it installed at a Viper certified shop, like Best Buy.Where'd you get the unit? It needs to be bought at a certified shop, as well..I've had the 790 on my Vibe since January. No issues, except I destroyed a fuse accidentally on the doorlock relay box, my fault, because it twisted apart. If you want anything to know about Vipers, or installing them, let me know.

Verified. The wiring list that 05VIBE posted is completely correct.

I had my remote starter installed today for $99.00 at Future Shop. No surprises or extra charges. Thanks Jahntassa.

I'm unable to see any wiring diagram because it says I need a password. I'm trying to install a remote starter in my moms 06.

Can I get in on the wiring diagram for 03 Vibe? I am thinking about installing the same alarm myself, since installation costs so much. Anyone know a good cheap place to have it done in San Diego area?
