2004 Salsa vibe gt. The paint is coming off the body moulding in one spot. Has anyone had paint work done under warranty? The dealer is saying it's not under warranty after 14 months...
Can you be more specific about "body molding". They Gray stuff, or the body-colored rub-guard on the doors? Either way, it should be covered - providing it wasn't from an accident.
Paint is NOT covered under warranty except in extreme circumstances:Quote »Chemical Paint SpottingSome weather and atmospheric conditions can create a chemical fallout. Airborne pollutants can fall upon and attack painted surfaces on your vehicle. This damage can take two forms: blotchy, ringlet-shaped discolorations, and small irregular dark spots etched into the paint surface. Although no defect in the paint job causes this, Pontiac will repair, at no charge to the owner, the surfaces of new vehicles damaged by this fallout condition within 12 months or 12,000 miles (20 000 km) of purchase, whichever occurs first. Also:Quote »Sheet Metal CoverageSheet metal panels are covered against corrosion and rust-through as follows: Corrosion: Body sheet metal panels are covered against rust for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichev er comes first.Rust-Through: Any body sheet metal panel that rusts through (an actual hole in the sheet metal) continues to be covered for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.NOTE: Cosmetic or surface corrosion (resulting from stone chips or scratches in the paint, for example) is not included in sheet metal coverage. And:Quote »Damage or Corrosion Due to Environment, Chemical Treatments or Aftermarket Products. Damage caused by airborne fallout (chemicals, tree sap, etc.), stones, hail, earthquake, water or flood, windstorm, lightning, the application of chemicals or sealants subsequent to manufacture, etc., is not covered.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I understood that the paint warranty is 6 years/100 000 kms (in Canada). I had the front end of my car repainted under warranty, no questions asked... Basically, the bugs that were stuck to the front of the car ate through the clearcoat into the paint, so they repainted it. I'm assuming flaking would be covered since that is a paint bonding with the moulding problem, (obviously it didn't bond). If the dealer is telling you they won't fix it, then phone GM, and complain... They obviously know about the crappy paint issue, and based on how many threads there are on genvibe, it IS an issue. Be persistant, and make sure to tell them that it's their Pontiac symbol on the front, and it reflects poorly on the quality of their product.
