New Vibe owner - three questions

Post by jcrohio »

Just purchased a used 2003 Vibe and really like the car - getting to know it and have been reading the manual - many questions have arose but most have been answered by searching this forum - great forum by the way.My three questions I cannot find answers for are as follows:1. I have the Moons and Tunes Package - it is supposed to come with six speakers - 2 in the back doors - 2 in the front doors - 2 small tweeters in the front corner of the front windows - my problem is I can hear no sound from the tweeters - any suggestions on how I can test to see if these are working?2. The manual states that a Brake Warning Light Check is supposed to happen when the car is turned on to verify that this warning system is working correctly - mine does not - the Parking Brake Light comes on when the Parking Brake is engaged so I know the light works - is this the way it is supposed to be and the manual just wrong or do I need to take this car to a dealer to check this out3. I bought the car used from a man where I live - it has 29.000 miles on it and has been in service a little over two years - does the warranty still apply for the remaining time/mileage?Thanks for any helpJack

The car is under warranty, not the owner, so you should be able to take it to any Pontiac dealer and have it serviced under warranty. As for the problems you have, as long as they were not caused by the last owner having done something he shouldn't have to void the warranty and cause those problems, then they should be able to take care of them for you under warranty at the dealer. That is at least what I believe to be correct, others may help you more since we have some here that actually work at dealers.

Reminds me of one of my favorite lawyer jokes. "How much do you charge to answer three questions?" "$150, now what are your other two questions?."I'd just take the car to the dealer and ask those two questions. Ought to be simple to answer.

The tweeters are not supposed to be loud...I have to put my ear almost next to it to tell it's there...but it puts out cleaner highs and mids, so I can definitely tell if it's not working...As to the brake light, try engaging the parking brake. Then start the car. It should be on and stay on. That will verify if the light is working or not.As to the warranty, a vehicle is covered by a 3 year / 36,000 mile B2B warranty...it expires at 3/36, whichever comes first, even if the car is sold to another owner. As previously said, the car is warranted, not the owner.

on my 2003 with the moon&tunes, the sound coming out of the tweeters is not really obvious. They are controlled with the volume to the front speakers, so if you have the fade to just the rear speakers, the tweeters will have no sound. To test if your tweeters are working, turn the radio on and put your ear up next to them. Probably best to do it while the car is not moving, maybe even open the door so you can get an ear closer, and if you do it on the driver's side, it may help to push the switch button on the door jamb to get the door ajar beeper to be quiet.I have a manual tranny, so the parking brake is always on when I start the car, I haven't noticed if the brake light is lit when starting even f the brake is off, but I'll check mine in the morning. The standard warranty is for 36,000 miles or 3 years, whichever is first, so you have about either 7,000 miles of warranty left, or until whenever three years from when the original owner drove it off the lot.congratulations on the new car (and on reading the manual ) Welcome to genvibe!

Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Vibe! FYI The 2003 Vibe owner's manual has been posted in Adobe Acrobat file format (*.pdf) too. Sorry, I don't have the link handy at the moment, but I'll find it and post it.EDIT (From the thread http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... gmlink.com

Howdy, congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club! For the brake warning light issue: Sure enough, here is what the owner's manual for the 2003 reads:Quote »Brake System Warning LightYour vehicle's hydraulic brake system is divided into two parts. If one part isn t working, the other part can still work and stop you. For good braking, though, you need both parts working well. If the warning light comes on, there is a brake problem. Have your brake system inspected right away. This light should come on when you turn the key to START. If it doesn t come on then, have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there s a problem.Yet when I start my '03, it does not do the test for the warning indicator... Only time I see it illuminated is when the parking brake is set. So, it would seem there is a "misprint" in the owner's manual, or our cars have a defect... As far as the warranty goes, don't worry - you're covered bumper-to-bumper until 36K. And, since you're still under factory warranty, you also have the option of extending the warranty should you want to do such a thing... Once again, welcome aboard and hope you enjoy your stay here!

This morning I checked mine out. Released parking brake, and then turned the key to ignition position, and the BRAKE light lit up for a second or two and then went out. (brake light is by the temp gauge in my cluster). I did not try going fast to the Start position though. although I wouldn't think that would make a significant difference. Switched back and forth between off and ignition, and each time I switched to ignition, the brake light would come on for a second or two and then go off. I'd say check it out again, look very carefully to make sure it's not coming on, and then if you're really sure it's not, then do as the manual says and get it fixed.

Checked it again... Nothing when turning the ignition on, and nothing when cranking the engine. Crazy! I can't remember if it has ever worked - it has always come on w/ the parking brake, that's about all I recall...Does your car have ABS? Not sure if that would make a difference (I don't have ABS, but on the cars I have owned in the past, both the ABS and brake warning lights would come on for a couple seconds and go out at the same time...)

yes, I do have ABS. I bet it is an error in the owners manual. In the 2004 owners manual, the text is different, it says Quote, originally posted by "2004 OM P 3-31 »Your vehicle’s hydraulic brake system is divided into twoparts. If one part isn’t working, the other part can stillwork and stop you. For good braking, though, you needboth parts working well.If the warning light comes on, there is a brake problem.Have your brake system inspected right away.If your vehicle has anti-lock brakes, this light shouldcome on when you turn the key to START. If it doesn’tcome on then, have it fixed so it will be ready towarn you if there’s a problem. When the ignition is on, the brake system warning lightwill also come on when you set your parking brake. The light will stay on if your parking brake doesn’trelease fully. If it stays on after your parking brake isfully released, it means you have a brake problem.(I added the bold ^ to highlight the change from the 2003 manual.I have a 2003, and if the 2003 behaved the same as the 2004 as described in the 2004 owners manual, then I get the brake light when I switch ignition on, but those without ABS it would be normal to not get the light at startup.

well, I said "I bet" and "if". You have yours in the shop so often, the next time you are in there ask the dealer about it. For now I wouldn't worry about it, but that's easy for me to say because mine lights up

Quote, originally posted by joatmon »You have yours in the shop so often, the next time you are in there ask the dealer about it.Now what's that supposed to mean? just kidding! I'm shooting for no visits to the shop until I need an oil change about 2500 miles from now. lolI'll check with my buddy to see how his Vibe's brake light works as well... His car is like mine, '03, base/auto, no ABS... He's probably never noticed but I'll ask him anyway.
