15" Rims

Post by platinum_ »

hey guys, i want to get the 15's , but have no idea how much spacing is needed, i got hte bolt pattern and the general info, but the guys at Canadian Tire cant guarantee anything as they dont know how much space i need for the rims to fit on the Vibe without screwing up the brakes and/or rubbing. i tried reading some of the posts but seems that the issue isnt solved. any help would be great, thanks

Tell them it's for a Toyota Corolla, +35mm offset. They will fit the Vibe. This is what most of us, including me, have done.

any idea what other cars will have the same wheel? i'm thinking of just going to the junk yard and getting a set. and just to make sure . i am looking for 15" rim, with a minimum 35mm offset? i could go for a larger offset and it wont hurt, but any less than 35mm would be too close ? thanks.p.s please if you know put a year range, for example 1998-2002 corolla or w.e, thanks again.

I got mine from Canadian Tire, and I asked for 15" steelies for a 2003 Matrix. My local Toyota dealer told me that a few base model Matrixes in 2003 came out with 15s. When you get the wheels, (the one's at CT anyway) have all the info stamped on the inside of the wheel near the edge of the rim. They should be stamped something like 15x6, 5x100, 38 (38 being the offset. The inside of my aluminum Vibe 16s have 38 offset stamped on them as well. I've had my 15's on for about a month now, and I've had absolutely no problems. I was going to check a wreckers too, but this way I was sure they were going to fit.

Do you have a model # or anything for the steelies? CT is having a hell of a time finding a set that will work...What did they cost? Thanks!KF

They could look up an '03 Corolla and find every car that takes the same wheel.

thanks alot for your input guys, but just to make sure before i make the speical order with CT.i can get 15" rims with either +35mm or +38mm offset (or anything in between)want the 5X100 bolt pattern, and 15x6, 5x100, 38 (btw what does the 15X6 mean? -- whats the 6 for) thanks again.

Stock offset is 38 mm I believe, but 35 would be less than 1/8" different and would also work fine. 15 x 6 is a 15" diameter wheel, 6" wide; again just right. JIC: 5 x 100 means five bolt holes on a 100 mm diameter circle. The only remaining spec is the center hole diameter, as most wheels locate on this, but A. I don't know what it is and B. It's almost certainly going to be correct, given that all the other dimensions are OK. (anyone have this data?)

well i ended up getting the 16's, almost everywhere i went they assured me that there was no way it would fit on the Vibe GT, the Vibe bas sure no problem, but nothing for the GT, i think thats the part i forgot to mention. the GT has bigger rotors, bigger callipars, and they are higher up, the toyota guys said they tried 15" from the base XR on the XRS and no go.

Others can I'm sure, give the 100% answer, but unless someone has installed aftermarket brakes on your car, I'm 99.99% certain the GT has exactly the same brakes as the Base, except that rear discs are standard instead of optional. I'm equally sure there are GTs using 15" wheels for the winter. Oh well, at least you're set now...

Bill is right, the rotors are the same size on the base and GT models, only GT gets disc all around. You can use 15s on a GT, TRDvibe did it..she ran 205/65/15....

What a rip because without a doubt they will fit a GT. They just want you to buy more expensive tires. My base takes 15" and my coworker who loved my Vibe so much he bought a 2005 GT. I sent him to the GM Pontiac dealer who put on 15" Mich X-Ice and they clear the caliper/rotor. The dealer has a special $750 CDN for rims, X-Ice (15" 195/65), installation and balancing. We needed new nuts because the stock 16 aluminium wheels have their own design that don't work well for steelies.

damn my loss big time, but hear this.i went in today to pickup the car expecting the X-Ice on thre as prommised, i take one look at the car and realize they are not X-Ice. I checked and saw they are the Alpines from last year. After some arguing i made em look for X-Ice from all over Canada (apparently nobody has them in stock). It seems that they "told me" that they would put on other tires if they couldnt find X-Ice, which they never mentioned, and either way (removed)!? the tires are in no way worth the same. So now i get to ruin their Alpines untill they find me my X-Ice. :D just an example of them trying to rip me off, i know alot of people never would have noticed that they got ripped.

Well done. I love it when a scammer gets nailed. Too bad you don't have about 400hp to really have some fun with the free tires!

This would be a good opportunity to tell them to look for 195/65 x 15" X-Ices and the rims to match. More available, cheaper, better...

the manager gave me his card, i will call tommorow to tell him about that, and mention that the ******* ripped me with the 16" rims as well. he specifically compared the specs from the gt and base (i couldnt see his screen very well) , and told me they were bigger and talked to me like i;m a moron saying that the brakes will ride higher and it simply wont fit no matter the offset, the interior diamater would simply be too small for the Gt brakes.

Tell them to call Turpin Pontiac in Ottawa and talk to Bill Southwell (I think that's his last name) in parts. He works the afternoon shift. He knows what fits and he's with GM so tell the manager to quit screwing around looking at the f****** green monchrome screen for the answer.

I am with bill, I'm almost postiive the GT brakes are the same as the front discs in the base and AWD models.According to my part listing, there is no separate part numbers for GT and base/awd brakes...Suprisingly, though, they do use different rotors for steel and alloy wheels. Odd...

Sorry I didnt' respond earlier Kent, my computer threw a hissy fit! lol. I don't understand why CT couldn't find a listing for 15" steelies for an '03 Matrix... Weird? That's really dumb that they screwed you with the Alpins, they are definitely not the same price, I'd be requesting either they give you a damn good deal, or they replace them with some X-Ices... Platinum_ keep up your b*tching at them, all retail outlets will give in eventually... I used to work at Walmart, and it's easy to get your way... lol.
