First Look: 2007 Saturn Sky

Post by ragingfish »

Quote » Caption: An artist's rendering of the 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster released by General Motors Monday, November 29, 2004. The Saturn Sky Roadster will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The rear wheel drive two-seater is the first of three new Saturn vehicle introductions that will double the brand's portfolio by the end of 2006. The Sky will be built at GM's Wilmington, Delaware assembly plant and arrive at Saturn dealerships in early 2006.Detroit - Saturn today released the first visual rendering of its upcoming sports roadster and announced that the two-seater will carry the name Sky.The rear-wheel drive Sky will showcase new design cues that will appear across Saturn’s future products as the brand renews and extends its portfolio over the next 24 monthsThe Sky is scheduled for public debut in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show in January. It will arrive at Saturn retailers in early 2006.“The new form vocabulary of Saturn has been influenced by GM’s design talent from around the globe,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Design. “Taut, controlled lines combine with harmonious and fluid surfacing to create a technical and dynamic feel.” The Sky will be built at GM’s Wilmington, Del., assembly plant. It borrows its name from a Saturn concept that was shown in 2002, but there is no design link between the two vehicles. Commentary: Perhaps Curve shall remain nothing but a concept?

Well, from the looks of that, I can't wait to see what it looks like in production.

Very sharp... I take it that this car will share the same platform as the Solstice?

I'd say so too... IIRC, the Solstice is being built at Wilmington. I would like to see another car on the platform make it to the showroom - I kinda liked the Chevy Nomad concept that was shown last year... I wouldn't mind having that little 2-door wagon! It's going to be an interesting few years at the General, it seems...

The Solstice really has me excited...If I can't swing a G6 this year, I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on the Solstice...Back on topic, however, I gotta say, the Sky looks like it could be the key to giving Saturn the boost it needs to get back in the black...they're saying good things are coming...and if this is any indication, they're right!

I hope your artist rendering is right. Personally, I didn't like the front end of the "Saturn Sky" concept car:

Maybe there's a subliminal reason why the Saturn is appealing???Word on the street is, the Saturn'll run rings around the Solstice! j/k
