Post by KilrZ06 »

I just got my abyss vibe GT but I cant find any information on if its amplified like the moons and tunes radio. If not, what do you guys recommend. I dont want to blow a huge amount of cash but I would like to have an amp and upgraded speakers. Thanks guys.Travis

Mine seems plenty loud. I haven't turned it up all the way yet.Any more power and I would expect you need to take another look at speaker placement. (I run the sound system at church and we play loud rock music).

The Nav radio dosen't have a seperate external amp like the Moon & Tunes package, and it has 4 speakers not 6. Can't tell you anything about the inside. Others will be better for recomended upgrades.

Thanks guys. It actually does have six speakers, though. two in each door and two in the back.

I turned it up all the way to see what would happen. Surprise! - the volume knob does not have a hard stop; it just keeps turning.Don't forget the tweeters in the A-Pillar Door frame (where the side view mirror mounts) That makes two tweeters and four midrange, no sub-woofers. But if it's not loud enough for you, I'd grab a decibel meter and make sure you don't go past 130 dB otherwise you're going to blow out your ears. (we use 2000 Watt SubWoofers at church so maybe that's what you want the power for?)

So amplifiers are only for loudness, not quality? Im interested in higher qualityOk so im probably looking at adding a amp so that i can have more speakers then, correct?

if i can make a suggestion, go for high quality and do the job right.I have done many car systems in the past. If you want bass go for a Punch amp, and fosgate speakers or kicker speakers. For a box I like Q-logic. I have also made a few bandpass boxes that worked great. I would also start with a amp before you get new speakers, you might be suprised what your stock speakers can sound like when there is high quality behind them. Do your research on amps, one good pointer is to have a low THD ( i.e. .05% ) here is a good place to start. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/2002home/

is that what that thing is....does it look like a proprietary amp? It would be great if you could unplug it and but something better inplace....something with RCA's or just higher quality

I finally turned my stock Nav System up loud enough to hear some clicks and pops (no THD problems) and also the plastic inner panels of the door vibrate so much with the bass that they pick up a hum. (Maybe a bass reflex would help?){listening to "Shine" by Newsboys}

I was told by the dealer that the nav system has the same sound system as the moon & tunes of course except for the noticeable. The nav system is amplified according to the dealer and yes the amp is located under the drivers seat.

I don't trust dealers... they tell you what sounds best or what you want to hear, in my limited experience. Have you seen it in writing anywhere that the DVD nav system is the same 200w amplifier as Moon & Tunes?

OK... I've read all the posts I can find here on the audio options, and here is what I think I've deduced:Moon & Tunes: 6 speakers (upgraded in-door speakers and add 2 door pillar tweeters), 200 watt amplifier. 6-disc changer is optional, but if you get it, it is in-dash. The amplifier is under the driver's seat.DVD Nav System: 6 speakers, 6-disc changer is standard, but it is under the driver's seat, no external amplifier (some dealers claim otherwise, unsubstantiated), since the CD changer is in the same spot that the amplifier would have gone.Does anyone have any serious (and documentable) disagreement with this?Earl

What's the quality of the upgraded speakers like? Are the paper cone? Something else? Anyone who's hauled them out have more info on them?

Ok I am presently looking at a spec/option sheet for a vibe gt '03 for a specific VIN. it clearly states that there is a 200watt amp included on this car that also has a oem nav system, underseat cd changer. So my question is ...where is the amp???

Your spec/option sheet is spouting BS. There is no option for an amplifier with the Nav system. The space where the CD Changer sits is where the amplifier would sit for the M&T system.Better physically look at the car. I know my Nav system didn't come with a 200 w amplifier.

Ok instead of saying that I am BS'ing it. Here is a copy of the spec sheet I am talking about. I am actually looking at buying this car and I will have a chance to ask the dealer and the service people about this question but please consider that GM made this spec sheet so what your saying is that GM is BS'ing their specs on paper. So have a look at this fax I received this week and you be the judge.

I never meant to say that YOU were BSing, just the data they were giving you. That fax you have indeed says it's configured with both M&T and the Navigation system, but, i've NEVER seen both of those options available together. In fact, on the 03's, there was NO way to configure those two options together. At least not that i've seen. It was either the Nav, or the M&T. I would definitely ask them about this, because something is fishy. Now, both the M&T and the Nav setup have six speakers, one in each door, and a tweeter on the sail panels for the side mirrors, but only the M&T has the amplifier. The factory wiring harnesses also don't provide for both in the same car.Maybe you found something special? It's a possibility, even I won't deny that. But those of us familiar with the options on this car are just saying something's fishy, that's all.

My guess is that the UZ6 option for six speakers suggests that the 6 speakers used for the nav system are the same six speakers used if the M&T package is offered. The "(Amplified)" notation is WRONG, and was probably added by a person that did not realize that the M&T package and Nav system were mutually exclusive options. In other words, the person that wrote the English description for the UZ6 production option is the origin of this mistake.Other GM models use UZ6 to designate an upgraded speaker system, so maybe that is what is going on here. It still doesn't mean you have an external amplifier.

Well, that could be, but it also makes mention of a sunroof in page one, which of course, isn't possible.

Ok so I was so confused I went to another dealer in Toronto and mentioned this site and our discussion and he pulled up the options sheet for building a vibe GT. And it clearly states that if Nav is chosen, the amp is deleted. So that settles that issue. Now from the last reply above this one....it is true that you cannot have a sunroof with a Nav....? so is this another confusion on the options list for this car I am going to see in the morning? What is next? Please clarify.

As said..the package is either Navigation (unamplified) with six speakers and no moonroof. Or, Moonroof with amplified six speakers and no navigation. This isn't that surprising, for some reason, dealers don't seem to understand how to sell this car..

I just came back from the dealership and I can tell you that they have a vibe gt with sunroof and nav. Maybe this is different for Canadian options. This car also has side airbag in the seats. This is my first time looking at the Vibe seriously and I have to say it is a fun ride but I will have to get use to the high reving engine. Very Sporty car considering I am downgrading from a Grand Prix GTP with 240hp and 280 ft/lbs.Cheers

Quote, originally posted by spyderpost »I just came back from the dealership and I can tell you that they have a vibe gt with sunroof and nav. Most likely, it is not a factory-installed moon roof. In the U.S. it is quite common for dealers to install aftermarket accessories like this for in-stock vehicles, because they make more profit on a moon roof that they have installed locally than the ones that come from the factory. Moon roofs are popular options, and perhaps the dealer felt there was a better chance of moving this GT off the lot quickly if it were so equipped, so they did it themselves or had a local shop do it.Again, here in the US, if a dealer adds things to a new car, they usually put a supplemental sticker on the window next to the factory sticker to reveal this information. I have no idea if Canadian dealers follow a similar practice.
