so i accidently hit the fuel cut off at redline the other day while passing a truck on a 2 lane road....question, why bother having the tach go up to 8 (or 8.5 depending how you look at it) if the fuel cuts off at just over 6. There's no way to rev up to 8k anyways?I guess the same arguement for the spedometer too...just a thought.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
if you misshift you can go higher than fuel cut.but i doubt youd care about the numbers then. id have to say its for asthetic reasons.

Cut-off for the GT is just over 8k. I'm guessing they just kept the same gauges whether it be GT/AWD/Base. It's just that they lowered the cut-off for the AWD/Base..

One can certainly exceed the cut-off RPM in the former case (I heard of a customer test driving a GT and blowing up the clutch and the engine by going for 5th and getting 1st!) but not in the latter, as this is exactly what the limiter is designed to control.
I would love to see how you could go from 4th gear and try and go into 5th and somehow get 1st? You must REALLY not be paying attention, since you have to push right to get it into 5th and pull left to get it into 1st.Now going from 3rd and wanting to get into 1st and hitting reverse I can see, thought that takes even more effort. Since you would have to pull even more and ignore the beep.
Guess the test pilot was a total spaz! BTW, there were clutch/flywheel fragments through the hood and cowl and when the parts estimate reached $CAN19,000, they scrapped the car...
Naw. The gauges for the GT are plenty different. Like the Base shows where the redline is. It's about 6400. And on the GT, the lines go up to 82-8300. Then rest is redline.Inder

Which car do you have?I get "fuel cut"/"Rev Limiter" symptoms if I try to crest 6k in any gear before the car is fully warmed up in my '03 GT (8k Redline)... Drive a half dozen miles down the road, and it works itself out.
I don't believe your fuel cut off is engaging around 6000 RPM's. I suggest you let your engine warm up first before you try to rev it that high. When your engine is cold in the morning and you attempt to do high revs, the engine is only protecting itself from damage. I am sure it becomes sluggish all of a sudden, or it seems as if it is trying to shut down.If you do not want to have engine problems later on down the line, you have to let your block warm up before you take off (at least 2 minutes).
