blind squirrel got the nut...

Post by Atomb »

Well, after 16 years of a crystal clean record (alright 2 parking tickets)...i got my first speeding ticket this morning on my way to work.I admit i was speeding and i got caught. He was kind enough to keep me below the cut off and only ended up with 3 points instead of 4.16 years....damn. any positive comments to make me feel better?

Congradulations! You got 3 ponits? How fast were you goin???I got slammed goin 90 in 40 zone by accident He let me off though...I would have lost my liscense for sure! He said "well since this isn't a busy road the only person you would have killed would have been you!" lol. Wont do that anymore just wanted to experience the speed on a windy river road.

i have to always be careful when i drive.... i tend to put my foot on the gas more than a lot of other people. i do try to slow down, but then i feel i'm going too slow and have to speed up! go figure.

Yeah. Last year, before I got the Vibe. I got 2 tickets. I was speeding and cop gave me a ticket for seat belt, he let me off easy. Then, the second time, I was doing 60 in a 45 and I told the cop that my brother worked at Best Buy and he knew the Chief of Police in that city and he left me off an impeding traffic ticket. The reason cops won't mess with when you work at Best Buy around here is because they get a discount at Best Buy. If they give you a ticket, they lose their discount. Inder

No moving violations in 16 years? I'd say:1) you are an extremely careful driver, 2) you were were waaaaaay overdue!or3) you ARE a police officer and drive a marked unit 24x7.I won't talk about my driving record, good, bad, or otherwise. Every time I do, it seems to jinx me and I get a ticket within weeks.

thanks for the smiles! I feel better now and after talking to some friends i guess it isn't THAT bad. I was doing 110kph in a 70kph zone...he lowered it to 90kph in a 70kph to make it the 3 points.I was talking about it with my wife last night and generally, in my family and circle of friends, i've always been known as a 'fast driver'. So not getting anything in 16 years was pretty lucky.(Last night i thought about those times where i sped across Toronto doing 150kph to get to my sister's wedding or to my parents' place...without getting caught). It did work though. Today, going through the same stretch, i set my cruise control at 5kph over the speed limit (so i didn't tie up traffic too much...it is a 2 lane road) and cruised along.Mavrik...you couldn't have told me about the blitz 2 DAYS AGO?!?!?! Thanks again, everyone. I was pretty bummed out yesterday. Now to see if the insurance goes up! I hope you're right, desert_dweller. Although in Canada, I wouldn't be surprised if the insurance companies updated thier files daily to make sure they squeezed every cent they could out of you!

Well, there was interaction, I was only going to try it once and wasn't expecting to get pulled over on the first time...Let us know how your insurance turns out I am curious...I've heard different things from different people about insurance increasing.

One at about age 16, the other at age 21 1/2, so it's been 40+ years. Never even got a warning. I chalk it up to both careful driving and just plain luck. My wife's last ticket was probably 20 years ago.

the last time I got a speeding ticket was probably about 8 years ago, on a lonely country road in east virginia a state trooper got me doing 64 in a 55 mph zone. irony was that night 5 miles down the road from the ticket I was doing the speed limit and hit a deer, stalled the car, and a tired trucker didn't see me stuck on the highway and jackknifed when he finally saw me. Nobody hurt, no real damage, the deer got up and ran away, but we almost got creamed by that truck. If that cop hadn't slowed me down, I would have been long gone when that deer crossed the road. just goes to prove that when cops enforce traffic laws, they put the lives of citizens in grave danger

Well I have to say, you were probably due, I have a lead foot also. I got a couple warnings when I was 17 or so, they let young blonds off sometimes easily, especially if they cry. In my defense I was scared to get it. Only had a seat belt ticket as a juvinile. Then I got my first ticket about 8 years ago, and was lucky I wasent going faster when he clocked me. I still have a heavy foot but set my cruise alot as to stop myself. As for your insurance, do not say anything to them, but I have never heard of it going up after 1 speeding ticket, it's not like an accident where they had to pay out. I allways say I wont volunteer the info but wont deny it either if they asked. But do not switch companies, cause the new one will ask. Have a great holliday season!!!!
