Shifter Bushings

I ordered a set of the shifter bushings from http://www.speed-source.net about a week and a half ago. Immediately after the order and since I have not been able to contact this company. My emails have either been comming back with an error message and the ones that a I think went through have never been answered. I confirmed that my credit card was charged. I even emailed from work to see if it was a problem with my computer. Does anyone have any additional contact info. on this company. (phone, other email address, mailing address exec.) Or if someone could try to email them on my behalf to confirm they still exist (maybe it's a problem with my ISP-I have Comcast) it would be greatly appreciated.This is the email I have been using and the one I got off the web. cacrawfo@speed-source.netThanks In Advance,Dave

well that's not good! i know several people have ordered from them, so hopefully they are just having some technical difficulties.

I just ordered shifter bushings from them on 11/4. I got them a couple of days ago and installed them yesterday. Their phone number is (217)898-2392 (I've never called them). As far as I know they are still in business.

hey, i'm told that the shifter bushings will help with the torque steer in the GT. is that correct? oh, i spose i could just search that since I know there are a ton of threads on this.....

Hi trd,Nah, the bushings help make shifting a little more accurate. they gear rods have rubber or something which causes the shifter itself to not feel so exact when going into gear. I think you're talking about the Polyurathane Motor mounts which helps with wheel hop and maybe the torque steer?Dave

I think that the motor-mount inserts do help with torque steer now that you mention it. The real benefit that I saw after I installed them was how little the motor flops around now when you go over big bumps. It's kinda hard to explain but looking back the car felt a little out of control when you go over really bumpy train tracks (for example). Now the front wheels just seem planted to the pavement. Cornering is a bit better too.I just love the cheap mods!

Carl already called back. Very pleasant person to deal with. He did get my order, but has heavy spam blocking on his computer which probably caused my emails to be returned. He did mention that the shifter base bushings do work as well. Has anyone tried these- I plan on ordering these as well. (By the way the base bushings are the ones under the shifter and replace the rubber baloon washers holding the shift mechanism to the car)

I ordered and paid through PayPal, got 'em pretty quick. This was a month or two ago.I haven't put them in yet, I figure if I have them in there, Pontiac will be even more unwilling to fix my clutch...

Ive had shifter bushings for almost a year. about 2 months after i put them in, one of the pins fell out and the bushing came off while i was driving, and i couldnt get into gear. I had to pull over and luckily i had an extra pin in my car for some weird reason. I think it happened because i didnt keep it well lubricated....from then on i did and i had no problems

so how do you keep them lubricated? like wd40 or something? and easy to get to, to do that?

I just put a dab of grease on the pins before I put the brass bushings on them. I wonder how long it'll be before I need to lube 'em again.

Hey all...Well, I decided to try this mod due to the high amount of play in the shifter that has caused a few clutch releases before I was actually in gear. I must say though that since I lubed the clutch linkage under the boot on the outside of the tranny, I have had less issues but this was hopefully going to be the final solution.Still couldn't figure out which was the Lower and the Upper linkages. They're both on the same level to me. Someone suggested that the L bushing goes on the left (when looking at the car) I found that the facing up fit better with the L than the one facing the cabin.Anywho, the install took about 3 hours... Yes, 3 hours! The upper bushing went on easiest though still took some effort. Apparently there is a ridge or groove where the Rubber bushing was. This made the Brass bushing difficult to slide on. In fact, that's what took me so long. The Lower gear cable wouldn't fit at all. I could hear the bushing seat (click) when it hit that little ridge inside the opening. Since neither under the car or over the car would have helped to give me any better angle to push the bushing through, I just kept trying.(I must state that the problem was in no way related to the brass bushings from Speed-source. It was completely the problem of the hole that those bushings went into) I ended up using the emory cloth that came with the bushings to try to sand down the bushing then the inside of that ring but what it took was brute force. It had to be struck (with a rachet extender) for it to slowly slip into place. No, I know I shouldn't have done that but I had no other choice.Once it was on all the way, the bushing actually seemed as free to spin as the other bushing. I can imagine if I would have taken it off and tried to put it back on, it would have fit fine then.I really hope this is worth it. The gears seem to feel more notchy (kinda like it did when it was new) but with a more positive feeling of it being in gear. Would I recommend it? Not if you have the same problem I had putting the bushing on.Should have and could have taken only 30-45 minutes without my unique issue. Instead, it took 2.5 hours longer and was a major pain to do.Dave
