Intake Air Filter Questions

Post by zionzr2 »

I know that by adding a higher performance intake filter will increase power. What I would like to know is how much a High Performance drop in filter will affect the following:1. Mileage2. Power3. Maintenance

YMMV.Your Mileage May Vary. That's the problem with these kinds of questions...YES, mods will modify your car's performance, economy, etc. but there is *absolutely* no way that any of us can tell you what your car, and your driving habits, and your climate, and your altitude and your particular car's assembly line quirks will do...If you're not modifying the stock airbox ("drop in filter"), expect changes to fairly minor. If you're modifying the airbox, expect more power, less mileage, and more noise. Will your Vibe start performing like, sound like, and drink gas like a top fuel dragster? No. Not that fast, not that loud, and not that much of a gas hog. Will it be faster, louder and less efficient than stock? Yep.How much?YMMV.

1. Little or no effect on mileage.2.A slight gain in power.3.A K&N drop in filter lasts forever and needs cleaning and re-oiling about once a year depending how much you drive. If you want to gain more HP a cold air intake will give you about 8 extra ponys. The filter is also re-usable and lasts a very long time.

I really only wanted better mileage so if by breathing beeter i see no change or a drop in mileage then this mod dosent really hold any intrest for me.....I thought the commercials were wrong in saying i would see increased fuel economy.

I have a K&N Filtercharger drop-in filter. I noticed 3 things:1) My mileage increased by about 2-3 MPG2) My car has a little bit more power (guessing 1-2HP)3) My engine is a little louder (which is ok)And, it will pay for itself in the long run because you save on gas and dont have to replace it for 50,000 miles.I would l recommend it!
