Canada car eh?

Post by vibe owner »

Canadian models are different than USA models. I started a list of differences -- maybe there are more? But as you read down, it seems I was wrong. The kph/mph meter. Also language-neutral gas/temp markings. The rest of these were based on the Matrix wiring manual, which apparently doesn't apply to Canada Vibes? Canadian models have no automatic headlights (twilight sentinel) and the corresponding sensor on the dashboard near the windshield is missing. Canadian tail lights run directly off the switch, USA tail lights are on a separate relay to accomodate automatic headlights. USA models have a "headlights on" indicator on the dash to say your headlights are on. Canada models have an indicator for low washer fluid level. That's all I find on the circuit diagrams. On the whole, I'd rather have the Canada model with simpler wiring, but maybe I'll find fun stuff to do with the extra wires

Electrical diagrams is a couple hundred pages, one of 3 repair manuals you can get from Toyota (for the Matrix, applies to Vibe as well).

Cant speak about the washer fluid level, but I can say I have automatic headlights cause when warming up in the garage they will turn on as well as the interiors, and show a green indicator in the dash. Well actually now that i think about it, when the headlights are turned on there may be a slight difference in brigthness but this may be because of the delay in the sentinal.

quote: The kph/mph meter. I agreequote: Canadian models have no automatic headlights (twilight sentinel) and the corresponding sensor on the dashboard near the windshield is missing.False. I have twilight sentinel and the sensor is near the A pilar, driver side.quote: Canadian tail lights run directly off the switch, USA tail lights are on a separate relay to accomodate automatic headlights. Not sure. As I said before, we do have automatic lights. quote: USA models have a "headlights on" indicator on the dash to say your headlights are on. We also have head light on indicator, in the RMP meter.quote: Canada models have an indicator for low washer fluid level.Don't know about it. I check the level every time I go to the gas station and fill it up if necessary. Finally, except for very minor things, both US and Canadian Vibe are the same.

hmmm - I stand corrected. Maybe this is a case where Vibe and Matrix differ, or maybe the wiring diagrams are out of date...

When you start the car, is there a washer fluid warning light? My USA car does not have one, and I'm guessing it would be located where the headlights indicator is.Other Canada differences, according to the owners manual, are to make the dashboard language-neutral -- water temp in degrees C (not C and H) and gas level is described symbolically (not E and F).

quote:Electrical diagrams is a couple hundred pages, one of 3 repair manuals you can get from Toyota (for the Matrix, applies to Vibe as well).Incorrect. The Matrix and Vibe systems are different. One example is that the Vibe has single headlights with one bulb that does high and low beams. The Matrix has seperate bulbs for high and low beams. Don't use the Matrix manual for the Vibe, there are differences. Also, Canadian Vibes do have auto headlights.American Vibes do not have a "low washer fluid" light.
