I have been trying to install my new Injen CAI but ran into a problem. How does the filter screw onto the CAI? The pipe seems to be too long and the filter has nowhere to go but onto the fog light housing. How far does the pipe enter the filter. I cannot get the install correct without having to cut the end of the pipe off.
Cool. It does take a little twisting to get everything to fit. I put the filter on before I connected it to the engine and the fender. Made things much easier.

What is it that you specifically like so much about the Injen CAI? Just wanted to know because I'm interested in one, too. Do you notice a difference now with it installed?

I sure did notice. Right off the bat the engine responded much better and made the car scream. I installed a TRD muffler about three months back so I couldn't tell you how it sounded with a stock pipe. With the pipe the sound 6000 RPM and up was unbelievable. Defiantly worth the money. Gain of about 12.9 HP. Defiantly noticeable. Vibe GT, Abyss, moon & tunes, 6 disk changer, cargo mats, Injen CAI, TRD muffler, TRD springs/strut brace on order, sway bars soon after, Need pistons? Wiseco Piston has made pistons for VVTL-I 1.8L inline 4. Nice looking parts. Great performance
Stang: Yeah, you can notice a difference. With the factory exhaust, it's very loud. Louder than the stock junk, anyway. Steletma: Is that the Toyota muffler, or the cat back from Thermal R&D? (Or, are they one and the same?) I'm picking up the Thermal R&D cat back.

It's the Toyota Racing Development muffler. I couldn't tell ya if it is the same as the Termal R&D muffler. The tip on the Toyota muffler is great, love it.

I am looking at either a Injen or a K & N Typhoon kit. K & N states around a gain of 10 HP and around 8 ft. lbs. of torque.I am also looking at a Flowmaster 60 series muffler at some point. Is the TRD exhaust better?

Great dyno data on that Ingen site! I'm a little puzzled though: They got 120.1 WHP on the base XR/Vibe, which is 92.4% of the rated 130 flywheel HP (Several references give the typical drivetrain loss for a M/T as ~20%), but on the XRS/Vibe GT they got 157 WHP, or only 87% of the rated 180. Can the 5 speed be that much more efficient, is the base engine underrated, or??
I bought the intake from Nopi.com. I got a dealer discount because I work at Wiseco Piston up here in Ohio. Good deal through Nopionline.com. Definitely worth the money.
That seems like the best price I could find also was at Nopi.com. Too bad I don't have the same oppritunity to get a dealer discount! Could you tell me how much it was to ship the intake?Funny thing is, I went to a "soup up" shop I guess you would call it here in town. The get the part from Nopi also at the same price. Only they want to charge me the suggested retail. Then they said it was only $25-$30 to install it and then they would guarentee the install and part. From the pictures I have seen and from what has been said about the instructions, I could save myself about $70 doing it myself.

It sure is worth doing it yourself. I instructions that come with the CAI are unfortuantly in black & white. If you have knowledge about the systems than you will have no trouble. The only trouble I had with it was a hole in the mass airflow senser flange. I had to send it back to Injen, but I recieved a new one a few weeks later. The problem that I had with the filter and the tip of the pipe was solved by pre-oiling the edge of the filter and sliding it up the pipe. The fog-light housing doesn't leave much room at all to install. You have any questions, e-mail about them.

What exactly was the problem with it that you had to send it back?Would you recommend a heat shield for the intake filter?I will definately be doing it myself. And I will be sure to email you if I have any other questions. Let me know what your email address is in an IM window if you could. Thanks!

After I installed my CAI into the car for the first time, I had a problem with the computer and the idle speed of the car. Right after I turned on the car, the engine light illuminated and the car stalled out a few times on me. I drained the power from the ECU and let the car sit. The light went off, but the idle speed would go from 2,000 rpm to about 800 rpm and back up again. It would settle down for a little bit. After I restarted the car later, the light would be back on. I contacted Injen and they told me to ship it back to them and they would check it out. A couple of months later I recieved a brand new one. The flange on the old one had a gap where the mass air flow sensor was placed. That is the reason why the rpm was never correct. I installed the new one and haven't had a single problem with it. Go ahead and e-mail me if problems occur.

I think they may have stole some h.p. from Hyundai, they were overrated....

Wow! Like the man says: "I'm up 10 HP already, and I haven't even done anything yet!" (Beats paying big $$ for a '99 Cobra as a few thousand Ford customers did, and then finding you're SHORT 20 HP or more!)BTW, I took some WOT intake pressure and temperature measurements on my base 5 speed. (1-1/2" or less H2O is considered excellent). The system from the inlet to downstream of the filter peaked at 9" @ 6,300 RPM, and inlet to downstream of the throttle body went off scale (15") @ 5,000. I then took the lid off the aircleaner and checked from there to downstream of the throttle and got 14" @ 6,000. This should mean that the total would have been >24", and as 4" ~1% power loss (sea level air pressure is ~ 415" H2O), the potential maximum gain for a CAI would be ~6% or 7.5 FHP. (8.0, based on 140 FHP) As a good CAI seems to be somewhat better than this, I assume there is some kind of resonant tuning going on. The temperatue at the stock air inlet was ~15 F. degrees above outside temp., equating to ~1.5% potential power gain, but I'm sure the difference would be much more in the Summer with the A/C at full roar.
