best place to buy winter tires in Ottawa valley

Post by Zig in East Orleans »

So, the Big Chill is fast upon us. I hear 15" rims are the better ride for Vibin in winter. Now to find the best place in the area to buy the rubber. Suggestions?

Hey Zig! I'm from Eganville, near Pembroke, and I was just wondering whether I should get 15s instead of 16s for winter, I was just concerned about whether the 15s would look goofy on the car? I usually get my tires in Eganville at O'Grady Bros. Esso. I got my Mom some Cooper winters last year, nice tread, and they look good too!

I'm removing the summer 17" I have on my car and putting the stock 16" steel rims back on with mounted winter tires. I still need to get the tire and am thinking a good set of Blizzaks (sp) or something for it. I can buy those through work.

blizzak hacapaleta's (sp?) are the best ones i'm told. but i'd highly recommend a set of studded tires on the 16 steelies. what kind of winter tires you got now?

ya, they do eat up the roads a bit. but i'll say that they are well worth it! i've tried studless tires and ended up in the ditch. and when it gets exceptionally icy here, you are screwed unless you have studs. i didn't have winter tires at all in my tundra. just put it in 4wd hi the whole time. but one christmas it was all ice. i couldn't even get out of the driveway!

Hey trd! The 15s don't look to bad at all! What size of tires did you get for them? I know I need a higher sidewall to keep my total wheel size the same as stock... But what did you get?

I got a set of BFGoodwrench P205/55R16 winter tires coming for my Vibe, they are not studded but have the holes for studs should I find myself in an area where its required and legal.

ok found where i posted my tire size!"I got 4 studded 15 rims w/ Hancook winter radials P205/65/15" that's the best fit for 17's and the 195/60/15 are the best for the 16" tire size. otherwise it'll mess up your OD reading pretty badly. there was a significant difference b/w the 2 wheel sizes in diameter.

Ok, I don't know what rims Costco buyers are talking about, the one at Cyrville doesn't carry the Vibe ones and he "didn't recommend" fitting on rims that matched the Corolla. WalMart said they used to have $47 rims but were out. Cdn Tire says "sure, 1-2 day special order from Mactec @ $67 ea."!!! GRR I called the dealer and got them at $55. oh and then 3.85$ a lug nut!

The Corolla rims are identical to the Vibe, that's what I have. You did go for 15" right?

Turpin has a deal for 750 for rims, Mich X-Ice on 195/60 r15s. Best price for the combo.Remember to replace the nuts for the steelies. They have a different angle and depth.
