Battery Disconnect after CAI install?

Do I need to disconnect the battery and then reconnect it after 20-30 minutes when I make modifications like CAI and Cat-back exhaust so the MAF sensor and any other sensors can reset themselves and readjust to the new set-up with increased air flow? Or is this the case only if I get a CEL or other warning lights after install?

I would think only if you get a CEL. All the sensors still work exactly the same, they just re-tune certain parts of the engine to deal with the increased airflow.If you have a CEL problem, then try it...But, i'm sure some others will chime in on this. Also, it might've been more relevant in the "Forced Induction" forum.

I read in a thread a while ago saying to disconnect the battery after CAI install to reset the ecu...... Cant hurt to try.

You should reset the ECU beceause that way the ECU does not have a hard time trying to mess around with the new setup. Just my $0.02Inder

You have to disconnect and remove the battery to install a CAI anyways, but if you do manage to install an intake without having to remove the battery, I would say reset the ECU. With an exhaust, I would also recommend resetting the ECU.Resetting the ECU forces it to quickly relearn the A/F ratios and what not. While it's learning, it adjusts itself to the increased air flow from an intake or exhaust. The whole relearning process takes about 5 mins of idle time.When I installed my Magnaflow, I drove off with out resetting the ECU. I didn't feel any difference at all. I was starting to regret my $310 purchase. When I got back, I reset the ECU for kicks, let it idle for a few minutes, then took it out again. That's when I felt the increase in power.You don't have to pull the battery cables to reset the ECU. Just pop open your fuse box in the engine compartment and unclip the huge white wire and the equally large black wire. Or you can pull the "EFI" fuse. Reconnect it after 2mins or so then start it up and let it idle for a few minutes before you take it out.

Which fuse is the EFI fuse? I would rather do that than disconnect the battery so I don't have to reset the stereo, tire pressure monitor, reprogram the door locks, etc...Thanks!

You have to remove the battery to install a CAI anyway...I can't see it possible to install with the batteyr in there...
