Adding another set of speakers

Post by dannmann777 »

So I have a pair of 6x9 3 way Infinity speakers that I have from my previous car. I also have an amp. Does anybody have any suggestions on adding them to my Vibe? Could I turn my 6 speaker M&T system into an 8 speaker system? Would it be worth it to do that? Any ideas on placement? Thanks for the input.2003 Vibe GTMonotone SattelitePower + M&T

Hey welcome to the forum. And there is someone on this forum by the name of "freestyle" which is making a fiberglass enclosure in his trunk. He's makin it with a pair of Pioneer 4 or 5-ways (6x9's) and 2 audiobahn 10" subs. If you do not want to do that, you could always just buy 2 6x9 enclosure boxes and slap in the trunk, jus make sure that you velcro em down.Inder

As suggested, yes, you can. Get a line-output converter to wire in with the existing amplifier to give you RCA outputs to your extra amp. Mounting the 6x9's is up to you. As suggested, you could put some boxes in the back, or figure out some clever way to work the 6x9's in somewhere else.I personally wouldn't mind seeing them installed in the rear hatch, flush mounted with the grilles on.If you need any specific info, just ask!

It does depend on the speakers. Something like the Polk/MOMO series might be a bit too deep, especially without some sort of spacer, but... you gotta admit, that'd be a sweet look. And since i've mentioned it...I might just try to figure out how to do it! Unfortunately, it's monsooning outside, so I can't go out and specifically look. I think there should be between 3-4" of depth from a surface mount...but i'm just guessing offhand..Of course, I also tossed around the idea of mounting either subs, or the sub amplifier on the hatch, but nixed those as it would be too heavy for the hatch struts without having to replace the struts..
