I have a miserable rattle in my steering column that I can't get too. How hard is it to remove the steering column? This car is starting to drive me nuts with the numerous rattles inside the car.

I'm guessing the only things that you would even be able to fix on your own would be a loose wire that might be rubbing up against a surface somewhere or a rubbing condition between two surfaces. I don't know what your rattle sounds like, but it could also be something that's reflected up from the gear itself (rack and pinion). It might be from the i-shaft (intermediate shaft) or from bearings in the upper portion of the column. All I'm saying is there are dozens of interconnections that require special tooling to disassemble and reassemble properly. Plus you don't want to set off the airbag. Please be careful.
If you just want to take the cover off the steering column, Mike put a link to how you can do it. It's basically just three screws. As RoundUp said...i'd be cautious to not just go around unplugging things, though it sounds like that's not your intention..

Thanks for the info. I don't plan on pulling things apart, just thought I would look underneath and see if anything was obvious. If I bring it to the dealer they won't be able to recreate the sound and I'll probably have to bring it back 3 or 4 times which I don't have time for. The passenger door rattles as well. I wish I would have waited and bought a Vibe that was made a little later. I looked at the build date and it was January of 02. They obviously didn't have the bugs worked out yet.
