Lifter Noise??

Post by CrazyCorpsman »

Hey everyone.Just have a question about the engine/lifters in the Vibe. I just bought my Vibe back in July and I love it. I've got about 6500 miles on it so far, and I noticed that there's noise coming from what I think is the lifters. I only just noticed it, but only at idle or just after startup. Is this normal?? Should I be taking it back to the dealer to have them check it out? Thanks for the info,Brian2004 Pontiac Vibe (2wd, base model)

If it's only after start up, it could be thar the anti-drain valve in the oil filter is faulty. It keeps oil in the filter when the car sits so that you have immediate oil supply on start. If it leaks back oil to the pan than it takes longer to get the oil to the valves. I noticed that my valvetrain was louder when I tried Mobile One so it could also be the oil or just normal. These cars aren't that quiet. Have you changed the oil and what oil/filter combo are you using?

And is it a ticking noise? The Vibe normally makes a ticking noise at idle that is noticable outside of the car.

i have about 30k miles on my vibe and i drive it hard alot. i get alot of noise from my car while its idling. I have the polyurethane motor mounts and i think that may be it? Im starting to think i need some valves adjusted because it sounds like valve tap...
