Recommend Software please!!!

Post by cibomatto »

I am looking for recommendation for porn blocking software. My mom just got her first computer and as of now my younger brothers 7 and 12 are mainly using it. They are pretty new to the whole internet scene as well. I want to have like a cyber porn blocker install in the PC. Once they are smart enough to hack through it I guess it would be okay for them to do whatever but for now I do not want to be exposed to trash.Any recommendations? I am in VA and they are in NY state.. I am doing my best to get them hooked up.

I don't use a blocker, but I've heard that NetNanny is a good one.http://www.netnanny.com

I've also heard that netnanny if very good. The best porn blocker is to have someone by the computer with them, however. Mom will learn so much from her boys this way.

LOL.. I had to spend 10 minutes explaining left click and right click as well... Its really awful but she is so willing to learn God bless her. OH well thanks for the suggestion. I LOVE GENVIBERS!!!!

a lot of routers have hardwall blockers installed on them that allow you to block out specific web addresses or ones with a particular extension (.xxx, etc.). I have a Netgear wireless router that has that feature, and i'd be willing to bet that their wired router has the same feature, adn can be bought for about $15 on the internet.

True, but this blocking method requires you to already know which sites are objectionable to you and deserve to be blocked.NetNanny (and other similar products) are a combination of lists of sites that have been developed over the years, with some active filtering that blocks sites based on keywords and content. (Much like the d_a_m_n_e_d censor-ware on this message board.)

My router software allows me to block all domains that contain certain keywords. So, put lots of nasty words in there, and it will probably block quite a bit.

You could block that domain specifically, though. The vast majority of porn sites probably do have certain key words in their names...there will be a few exceptions, naturally, but those are probably also less likely to be caught by other software as well unless they're well known tricks.

Blocking by URL won't cut it.vvww.met-art.c o mvvww.alsscan.c o mvvww.theclubhousedallas.c o mvvww.heartbreakers.c o m........These are just 4 I can recall. (YES, I'm a young adult male many of whose friends are young adult males! So I don't need spam to get sent this stuff.) Although I could probably guess, I don't even specifically recall any that would be easy blocking targets.Yeah, it'd block a lot of stuff, but so much wouldn't be it'd be useless.

Well it was just a suggestion, and it's better than nothing. I'm not a porno aficionado. LOL I doubt even any software would be foolproof though, since new domains come up all the time.

That's why programs like NetNanny also offer an update service to keep up with the slime merchants. Nothing's foolproof, but the software solution is much better than static blocking tables in your router (which, by the way, do nothing about the actual content of a web site).

It's a reasonable suggestion, and I didn't intend a dig at you. I support cibomatto and just want him to be successful.I also know the world knows no determination like a hormone soaked boy after nudie pics!
