do your brakes do this when it is wet

Post by syclnjr »

well I have noticed this a couple of times but I didn't think anything of it until this morning. When the brakes are wet or should I say that the car sat in the rain all night and then when I drive it to work which is about 18 miles all highway when I get to the entrance to work to stop from about 60 the car sounds like it has a flat tire at least the same noise there is no pulsing that I can feel. The only thing that I can figure is that there is some residual water sticking to the rotors so inturn the brake pads are slipping in the certain spots that the water is sticking to. Just curious if any of you have noticed this on your cars or not. But it is only when it rains. Pretty crazy stuff if you ask me but let me know if there is any one out there having the same problem, well nuisance I should say, or if any of you have some ideas why it is doing it. thanks in advance

have you noticed this on other roads under similar conditions? Sometimes I've even pulled over to see what the hell is wrong with my tires, find nothing, and then realize it was because of the road and not the tires. I'm not saying it is not your brakes, just asking if it could be that particular piece of road.

not sure joatman this issue is on going on any road and actually I hear it more often than not in the criteria that I stated above on smooth freshly paved roads. I am not sure just curious if anyone has encounted this problem before. Thanks for the insite. I am going home pretty quickly so I will have to check it on my way home. thanks again

Pulsing? Sounds like something with ABS...do you have ABS?
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Sometimes when parked in high humidity conditions, it doesn't take long for a bit of corrosion to develop between the pads and rotors, leaving a very slight ridge which soon wears off under braking.

I do experience the ABS pulsing when the rotors are wet. It is usually goes away after a few moderate braking events that clean the rotors and heats them up as well.No big deal for me, but it is a noticeable.
