Dishwashing detergent isn't good for fabric!

Post by ColonelPanic »

I had a bottle of diswashing detergent in a bag laying on the rear seat that I forgot to bring in the house for a couple of days... It ended up leaking out all over the seat. Now, I have a huge dark grey spot, probably about 5" across and 3" wide that I can't seem to get rid of. Tried using some interior cleaner on it, didn't help. Even tried clean water, but that just makes the soap on the seat become sudsy. Tried gentle blotting, firm scrubbing, nothing has worked so far. I'll probably give my fabric stain remover stuff a try on it, but I'm not sure if that will even work.Any suggestions?

You are going to have to either have it steam cleaned, or flush all the soap out with clear water. You can use a wetvac and a garden hose. Any soap that you leave in the foam pad will cme back and show/attract dirt to it.

You'll more than likely have to use some kind of a carpet cleaning machine on it. You know, the one with the hand atachments for furniture. Use really hot water and try to extract the soap out of the fabric. You may have to do it several times to get it out of the foam padding under the fabric to. Don't use more cleaner or soaps in the machine though. You don't need anymore cleaning agents. I'd spray a scotchguard protectent over it when it dries to.
