JVC Head Unit With Pre-Amp

Post by platinum_ »

hey guys, i just purchased a JVC KD-SX90 head unit, it has both front and rear pre amps outs . http://www.crutchfield.com/S-t...SX980problem is that they are both rca, is there any adapter i can get to run it into the moon and tunes amp ? or will i just have to get a line level adapter to convert the 50W speaker out to line level ? thanks.

which would be the better choice ? i found the FAI-3A that people say is good, but it seems that it outputs to RCA which i hear shouldnt work too well with the M&T amp, but i also found the OEA4 which has direct wires going out, not RCA. OR

Hmm... never seen that OEA-4 before. The FAI-3A has RCAs, but that's in addition to, not in place of, line-level outputs. The OEA-4 looks like the same thing, sans the RCAs. I'd say that's a better deal for you (and everyone) if it's cheaper than the FAI-3A since the RCA outs are useless anyway with the M&T amp.I think people here were simply unaware of the OEA-4's existence. Nice work, platinum_.

I was aware of that OEA thing, I saw it once before online, problem is no one stocks it....FAI-3A is easiest to find...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

hmn, i think that if i get the change i'll go for the OEA, but i didnt realize that the FAI had line outs as well, i was looking at one at Wal-Mart but just couldnt be sure without taking it out of the box. First thing though i am going to try and crack the RCA problem, theres gotta be something with grounding, or maybe i should put on a backwards filter on it or something, i'll try a few different things before i go for the line-level converter, theres gotta be a way to get the RCA to work considering it is putting out the exact same signal as the FAI would, only difference being the FAI must have some kind of protection in there to secure the line and prevent the pops everyone has had problems with. i'll do some research on it, and when my head unit arrives its gonne ba trial and error time. thanks again guys for your replies.

just did some research, asked a few people and checked several sources, each one answers that the gain is too high on the amp, but since there is no gain control on the amp, then one must try to find the gain setting on the HU and lower the output, i noticed that many pre amps will output as much as 8 volts, a little too much for our factory amp.
