New Windsheild Installed

Post by JohnC »

Thanks to the great Arizona tradition of speeding thru the chip seal road resurfacing and breaking everyone elses windshields with all the loose gravel, I now have a brandy new $240 (US) unbroken windshield. Noticed the price went up $100 when they billed my insurance co., instead of me paying for it. HmmmmmI made it a whole week of driving 5 miles a day thru the chip seal areas with out some a** speedin the other way, then came this POS chev S-10 doin 65 in a 25 and covered my car in rocks. There was gravel still layin on my hood when I got to work. And of course a couple more paint chips in the hood.Oh-well...needed to vent. Feel much bettere now.

Did the company that sold you the windshield let you know that the one with the tinted strip along the top is the same price as the regular one with the dots by the mirror?Simon

Just for curiosities sake i asked about the dots down the passenger side...he had no idea why they are on there. As an update, just had 3 chips filled by same company ($20 Choice Auto Glass), this time the shower of rocks also broke one of my fog lights. I will be looking for a pair of driving lights that will fit the openings, and offer the unbroken one for sale.

Too bad you can't tell until after they pass whether some inconsiderate idiot has shelled your car. You might be able to rig some kind of a stone slinger loaded with hardball-sized rocks. "An eye for an eye..." BTW, theoretically, his rocks shouldn't be moving that fast. Basically, they just fly up in the air and you drive into them at 'X' MPH, so if you could safely slow way down as you meet, the damage potential would be greatly reduced. (sounds like it might make for a mighty slow commute however.)

If the rocks get thrown from the top of the tire as you're coming towards the other vehicle, when they leave the top of the tire they are travelling nearly twice as fast as the vehicle they are being flung from. Add your speed that's a hell of an impact!

"An eye for an eye..." : Oh i could tell the rocks were coming because he was driving on the far right edge of the road, where they accumulate. A rock slinger Hmmm... Simon; Thanks for the fog light how-to, I am sure you just saved me time and effort.
