dealer installed security system

Post by coratz »

hello everyone, just a few quick questions. can the security system option be installed at the dealer? how much would a good price be if this is possible. i have the power package option so im sure it would be an easy install. does anyone have it? any opinions would be welcome. i find that the aftermarket of alarms is pretty pricey for what you actually get

I have the factory alarm with glass break sensor. I got mine with it already installed from the factory. I think that the dealer installing it would be pricey, but you should call them to find out the price. The aftermarket alarms all ussually cheaper than the dealer installed ones. You can also get more options on an aftermarket alarm system like remote starter etc... Call the dealer to find which is more beneficial to you as far as price and also what you get for your money.

Installing an aftermarket alarm in my opinion is the best way to go. The reason for this is that on many factory installed car alarms it is possible to still get into the vehicle without setting off the alarm easily. All the thief has to do is unlock the door by whatever means and the alarm is disarmed. Whereas on most aftermarket alarms the alarm is triggered not only by vibration but by any door being unlocked without the actual transmitter. This even includes putting your key in the door and unlocking it...the alarm will sound. Trust me...I had my vehicle broken into the same way and the factory alarm didn't sound because they unlocked the door...so the alarm disarmed itself.-Savoy-

looks like im gonna go with the viper300. 299 bucks and another 150 bucks to install it. only a viper dealer can install it or the warrenty is void. gm dealer wanted 480 to put their system in which was good in a few features but, the viper had more. i dont want my vibe stolen for i have loss of use coverage for 2 weeks with a rental car and my insurance company would find it very hard to replace my vibe with another.

My dealer quoted $595 CDN for a system which includes a fuel immobilizer. Paying the extra for that is worth it as having the fuel immobolizer decreases insurance (in BC anyway).

Dealer gave me a guess of about $600 to install the option. I've done installs before and wonder what the deal is with the price. I've found the parts on http://www.toyotapart.com for just under $300. There are several part numbers available. The Toyota dealer has told me that if you have Keyless Entry that you need to have part # 08586-02850 installed. For some reason this is the most expensive of the three. I dunno, after market might be a better choice for the price but then you don't get that wonderful phizo chirp.
