headlights pealing

Post by drayday55 »

i was waxing my car and i noticed that the U.V. coating that keeps the headlights from yellowing was pealing, for a few months i noticed what looked like spiderweb looking crakling on the surface, it turns out that was the start of the pealing process. anyone else with the same? im gonna take it to the dealer, i hope they dont blame it on my eyelids.

yes, take the eyelids off! then they can't blame you for it. if they don't know they were ever on there, then they can't say anything! besides, not like blubat can't fix you up w/ some new ones anyways!my headlights aren't peeling, but they are definitely rock chipped!

Haven't had the problem with the Vibe but the Malibu I owned before this did the same exact thing. Both headlights turned a hazy yellow, then the coating began chip and peel off. Wasn't pretty. I wasn't sure what caused it, although I think the plastic polish I used on the lenses may have been a good suspect... May have been too abrasive. The coating is still good on the Vibe's lights. Only problems I have are the lights being sandblasted from road debris and have developed a bit of haze on the inside of both lenses, that can only be seen when the lights are on.Talk to the dealer and see what they say...

You know I noticed somehting like this on my PT this weekend. I buffed some of it off and told myself keep an eye on it. Figures Chrysler probably cheapened the coatings and now it is doing that. I have a cloudy white condition on the top of one.

well, i took it in to pontiac today, i hate service writers at dealerships. they always act like your trying to rip them off or that you dont know anything!!! they told me the pealing was from chemicals and it is not covered, also the right light is kinda foggy in the corner and he said that they would re seal them. i dont think so!!!!! i also have issues with the window seals bunching up, and i said i dident want to waist the tech's time in diagnosing the prob. so order a few new pieces and call me when they are in. but no he thinks they can fix them. i told him i already tried, with a hair dryer, but when it gets hot out the rubber gets soft and resmushes!!! i got an apptmnt. on thursday next week, ill talk to the owner of the dealership scince i know him and scince this is the second time i have had problems with the dealer ill mention that i wont be back.. since i worked for a gm dealer before, i kinda know the behind the sceanes. they fear any negative feedback to gm and im gonna blab their ear off!!!
