I did the "search" thing, and couldn't find any other topics on this, so...Is it just my vibe, or does anyone else with the GPS/Navigation have this same problem:Everytime I start the car, I have to tell the GPS navigation unit that I speak English (by hitting enter)! Every G.D. time!!!!I'm planning on taking in for service next week, (clutch is slipping, fuse blew on cruise control, window weather stripping on driver's dooor near mirror mis-shapened, and missing one nut on engine cover), and have just clicked over 16,000 on the odometer this morning, so everything should still be under warranty.Yes, I read the manual when I first got the car, and followed all of the instructions. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE this GPS unit (has saved faced with directions countless times!!!), but this is really starting to bug me a lot now!Am I the only one with this little quirk on their GPS?

Every time I turn on the car or the nav system, the AGREE button is already highlighted, so all I have to do is press the center of the joystick. Are you saying that your unit powers up with the ENGLISH language button highlighted? If yes, there is a problem.

Yes...it's the "AGREE" button, which as you stated is already highlighted, but isn't it a pain in the (removed), to have to hit "ENTER" every time you start your car?I mean, until this car is sold, and the "new" owner might speak another language, wouldn't it make sense that I want it in English everytime I drive my Vibe?, Why do I have to tell it everytime that I speak ENGLISH?Do you have to tell your PC what language you want to use everytime you get on the internet? I don't think so!!!!Maybe I'm just cranky this morning, and letting off a little steam with this rant, but it's really starting to get on my nerves!

That screen is not there to select the language. They just put the language options there. If you read the screen, you'll see it's a legal disclaimer saying that if you crash the car while you're reading the screen, you're liable. EVERY map-based navigation system currently available will have a similar screen. There is no way to bypass it, it is not something you can get rid of.Again, it is NOT asking you to change languages, read what the disclaimer says, that is what you have to hit "ENT" to.

Jahntassa...Thanks for clearing up the "legal disclaimer" issue I have with my GPS.I guess in these days of anybody suing anybody at the drop of a hat, GM, has to (and for that matter, yes...all GPS manufacturers) cover their butts with a disclaimer, so no one will sue them.It still pisses me off though! (I guess I'm cranky again this morning!)Steve

Trust me, EVERYONE hates that screen. You'd think there'd be a "Yes, I know, stop asking!" Option after awhile.. I've simply gotten in the habit of tapping the "ENT" every time I go to shift into reverse.. It really stinks when you accidentally tilt the little joystick and set it to french.. I understand your gripe, though. The only unit i've seen that's somewhat better is the Garmin 2610/2620, because it has a "passenger mode", that actually lets you set destinations and such while the unit is in motion, which you cannot do with our nav system, with the exception of the "Home" and "1-5" destinations. The only workaround I could figure is to pull apart the unit and create some sort of pulse switch that "taps" enter for you when you start the car.. Not sure how hard it'd be, but that's the best I could think of..

Again, thanks for the insight Jahntassa...Quote, originally posted by Jahntassa »The only workaround I could figure is to pull apart the unit and create some sort of pulse switch that "taps" enter for you when you start the car.. I wouldn't even think of trying to "fiddle" with this thing!!!I guess I'll just have to keep pushing that damn button everytime I drive anywhere!
