Car crash caught on live report!

Post by rasermon »

http://beltmarks.com/video/crash.mpgNow here is the question....what was the cause of the accident, was it:a) honda accord not yeilding to oncoming truck and thinking s/he had the right of wayb) honda accord distracted by newsreporter and not looking to their left and resulting in accidentc) honda accord distracted by van coming from opposite direction and not seeing truck comingd) none of the above

The honda did stop and wait for some of the other traffic so I think a) wasn't a cause.I think b) and c) probably contributed, and also possibly the fence and sign on the other side of the road may partially obstruct the view at that intersection, as well as the trees down 53rd. Still, the honda driver should have pulled up farther to make sure he could see the way was clear before commiting to pulling out."the man driving the car is in critical condition" so it was a he, not a s/he The lady reporter in the studio thought it was pretty funny.

He almost said a dirty word! I think I would have too, though. What appears to have happened, IMHO, is that the van turned left, and the Honda assumed from that, that there was room to pull out, when in reality, the van barely had room to turn left without getting broadsided themselves.

Quite amazing. I see both the camera man and the reporter weren't in too much of a hurry to get over to the accident victims to offer assisstance, even when the reporter said there's smoke coming from the car..... I think if I was on a jury, I'd have to say they (news team) may have contributed to the accident.

The Honda driver is looking directly in the direction of the truck as he pulls out. Maybe he thought he had time to make it. The truck may have been going considerable faster than 55mph. The van must have blocked his view somewhat.

Clearly the Hondas fault... The reporter I am sure is thankfull he was not taken with the crash, so close to him. Worst place to get hit on the Honda and a vehicle higher up then it. The Honda did not come to a complete stop and the Dodge van that crossed also was crossing late in front of the Forrd PU and thus may have contributed to the Honda thinking it was OK to pull forward. Seems like the Ford PU did not see the Honda either since it did not sound the horn or hit the brakes.

Yep; Honda driver was at fault. But, I'd love to open up a can of whoop--- on the reporter, cameraman, and the pretty, talking heads in the studio for their lack of action or concern. Just disgusting.I'm reminded of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry":We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at fiveShe can tell you ’bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eyeIt’s interesting when people die-Give us dirty laundry

Don't know if this link will work, but here's the intersection in question:http://mappoint.msn.com/(2ffvc...01|L1|Looks like the video was shot in the morning (the reporter's facing east and his shadow is long). Clearly the sun wasn't a factor at least as far as interefering with the view of the eastbound truck. FWIW, the bright sunlight also would have silhouetted the reporter, cameraman and truck.

You should be a crime scene investigator Zuben lol!!!!Maybe it was all made by the news crew, maybe they had something secretly attatched to the guys car while he stopped and when the time was right they pressed a button and launched the unsuspecting car into the intersection (removed).

If the news crew were to accidentally harm/hurt the accident victims any more than what they already were while trying to help them, the victims could sue the news crew and really take them to the cleaners! It sounded to me like the reporter was trying to use his audio feed to call for help and describe the accident to someone who would have access to a telephone. And the "smoke" he saw coming from the Accord was the powder from the airbags. In any case, that was really a bad crash.

He was trying to get help, though, by describing what had happened, where they were, where the vehicles were, etc. for someone who did have easy access to a telephone. With the things he was saying, it appears he was doing a live report. But physically helping anyone now, sadly, is just asking for trouble because so many people get sued for just trying to help. Much as you may want to be the good samaritan, it can end up costing you everything you have.

It's surpirising how many people are red cross certified. I'm certified for first aid and CPR. If they are not certified for first aid, they should have at least called an ambulance! If they were certified first responders, they could be charged for not helping.

Actually, no. No private citizen, regardless of any certification, is under any sort of legal obligation to assist a person in distress or even a life threatening situation. We went over this extensively in one of my law classes that was taught by a lawyer.
