The Dealer told me I did not have to wax the car because it has a telon coating . just wash and go... I think he is bull sh*ting me. Anyone else ever heard of this????
according to the salesman they stopped using a clear coat and put a teflon coating like on a frying pan.. I just shook my head and said OK.I figured its a load of crap.
The paint sealer or environmental paint protection as they call it sold by the dealerships is called Auto Armor. The sealer has a Teflon fluorocarbon resin base that is made by DuPont. I have it on my Vibe and it's great stuff. The splattered bug guts, tree sap, and bird crap don't stick or leave any marks. One wipe of the sponge and they are gone. The stuff is guaranteed to last for 5 years and if it fails they repaint. They also say that you don't have to wax for the 5 year period, of that I'm a little skeptical. The company is ECP Inc and their web-site is http://www.ecpinc.net.

The clearcoat is the layers applied on top of the color coat (called the basecoat) that give the finish it's shine, depth, and durability. The explanation about the Auto Armor is correct, though, and that is what they were trying to sell you. DuPont, the exclusive manufacturer of teflon, has even made it's own statement about using teflon for making automotive surfaces "non-stick". Their own statement says that it was never designed for, nor was it recommended for such a purpose. Teflon must be baked onto a surface for it's non-stick qualities to work. If your car didn't have the teflon baked on, then it isn't doing anything. There are waxes and polishes on the market that advertise that they contain teflon, but the amount contained in them is virtually insignificant. This teflon stuff is just a marketing ploy, so far as I've been able to find.If such a product has been applied to the car and foreign matter wipes off easily, it is only because of the wax/polish. Teflon has nothing to do with it. I get the same result from regular application of a decent quality automotive wax. I would also very strongly suggest that you still wash and wax your Vibe regularly, as it seems that you intend to do anyway. Congrats on your new Vibe purchase and welcome to GenVibe!

Yes crap! You still need to wax, polish and or clay bar vehicles with clear coat. Anyone that tells you you do not is a fool! Waxing and cleaning the clear removes all the polutants that fall not to mention rail dust and stick to the clear. You also buff out scratches from the clear. Take care of the clear and you are taking care of the paint over all.
Well, I have the Clear Coat finish on my Vibe and believe me, I waxed within 6 months....I am doing the 3 Step Mother's this weekend....because damn it I want to!!!
